Default School me on a 29-3 3”

Correction:29-3

Semi local private sale opportunity. I love 29 dash 2s, I have a couple 6” and a 4”. A 3” 29 is intriguing. Tell me about them, current value etc. Looks to be a shooter, here’s a pic:

Are you sure this is a -2? It's not pinned or recessed so that would lead me to think it's a -3.

I've got -2's and 3's in barrel lengths from 4 to 12 inch, and they're all good as far as I'm concerned.
Would love to have a 3" and that one looks sweet!

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I snagged mine several months ago and was very impressed with the accuracy out of a 3 in barrel at 20 yds. I was shooting hot specials with cast lead bullets. IIRC I paid just south of nine bens. Jump on it and enjoy.

The 29-3 being discussed is probably the "44 Combat Magnum" that was made for Lew Horton in 1985. They are very nice revolvers, but the recoil and blast with factory 44 Magnum loads make shooting them somewhat unpleasant.

It is a little difficult to tell from the photos, but I don't think those are the original grips. They appear a bit long in the first photo, they look like square butt finger groove combats to me. The correct grips are pictured in the photo provided by 75Vette. Currently the originals are worth $200-$300.

There were 5000 units produced, product code 101224 from 1984 to 1986 for Lew Horton distributing. As Doc44 stated, they can be a bit "overwhelming" with full power 44 magnum loads. Personally, I can't get enough of them, They just scream intimidating to me. Hope that helps.

Best regards, Bob.

Look like the grips (1st picture) only have one (top) finger groove...... modified????

I'm with Doc44 ..... while it's a .44 magnum..... it may be a better .44 Special that can shoot .44 magnums if really needed.

A 3" barreled M29 LHS is my favorite revolver hands down. They have the endurance package and come with the Goncalo Alves combat grips. They balance nearly perfect in my hand and are very accurate. I shoot everything from 300 grain full house mags to 200 grain .44Special Gold Dots in mine. And the recoil isn't what some are making it out to be... I can tell virtually no difference in recoil between a 3" barreled M29 and a 5"... Plus, a 3" barreled version carries a hell of a lot better on the hip than a 4, 5, or 6+ inch version and that is NOT even debatable...

Default Smith & Wesson 29-3 3" LH

Here's mine, that I recently purchased. They're very nice N frame BB snubs, accurate, and when shooting 44 special, not harsh at all! The N frame mitigates a lot of the recoil and they feel quite balanced in hand. When on the road or camping then load up on some 44 mag, and all is good. Shooting a cylinder full of 44 mag is tolerable, but shooting a steady diet, .... well I'll leave that for you Hickok45, type guys!

The snub to the left is a 629-4 (Backpacker) and to the right a 657.

Thanks! Yes those are Smith & Wesson flat side RB combats (90's - 2000 vintage). Pretty nice for a stock grip, which I took off of another revolver.
