New to me 64 no dash need date of manufacture
I picked this up at possibly the smallest gun show ever this weekend.
S&W Model 64 no dash
S/N: 1D4673
It was priced at $550 and he came down to $500 so that seemed fair. It cleaned up real nice but I replaced the grips already and saved the originals as this will be a daily carry piece.
I would assume it was manufactured sometime between 1970 and 1971 but was hoping to get a more accurate date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all!

Yeah baby!!!
I think those grips are new production magnas, FWIW. You probably know that already...
I would've paid that. You've got a fine revolver there!!!

Your revolver dates to 1976, the S&W Catalog shows 1D1 - 1D30000 as 1976-77.

Thank you!
So they were still making the 64 no dash in 1976-1977?
I thought they only made the no dash between 1970 - 1971?
Thanks again!

Great revolver at a good price. I have one also with 2" that I bought new in 1976 as off duty carry and carried for many years. Paid $145 new in 1976. Would be never sell it. You don't see these often at shows or dealers. Mine is 1D43XX. Nice catch. I still carry mine in a handmade pancake holster a fellow officer made for me (and others) back then. Excellent concealed carry package. Recently refinished grips after many years of faithful service.

Great revolver that is not seen often in 2” pinned. I believe the no dash was used for all tapered barrels. Although the no dash 4” tapered barrel was only made for a year or so, I believe the 2” was considered tapered and stayed as a no dash until 1977 when it was replaced with -2 when the gas ring was moved from home to cylinder.

That looks in great shape! The 2inch model 64 is my favorite smith revolver Very cool to find a no dash, Id love to find a no dash or -2 snub 64. I would have paid $500 without hesitation!
Some people will agree that when it comes to a gun you really like and want, the price can be a non issue. If i saw that same gun for $600+ Im likely to pay the price
In my neck of the woods they are pretty rare. I had to travel to Nashville to pick up this 64-4 snub.
