Model 36
I DO love my S&W revolvers. Just bought a new-to-me model 36, 5-shot, in .38 S&W Special with 1 7/8" barrel, high-polish blue and gold medallion inlayed wood grips. The serial number is J881XX. Can anyone tell me when this little jewel might have been manufactured? THANKS in advance.

The SCSW gives J1 to J99999 as 1969/1970. So yours almost certainly falls into 1970.

The Model 36, or a varient, was what we all carried when revolvers ruled law enforcement.

Welcome aboard from Wyoming, and congratulations on picking up a Chiefs Special.
Is it a round or square butt?
How 'bout posting some photos.

I can take pictures w/my camera/phone, but to post them is another story. This I will have to learn how to do. Any/all guidance for that chore is appreciated.

The older Smiths are GREAT! Take care of it and it should last a lifetime - and they will NEVER make them like that ever again!!!
