N8123 most likely shipped in June of 1970. Diamond pattern stocks were discontinued by 1968, generally. Check the inside of the right stock for a serial number. It's most likely from an earlier N frame Smith.

I have a 28-2, serial number N925, shipped in May 1970 with non-diamond Magna stocks numbered to the revolver. Your 28-2 would have shipped with the same type of stocks.
