Default Ace Trigger Shoe Size for Model 28-2

Hi, All -

I couldn't find the appropriate answer in my searching, so I'd like to inquire of our forum members:

I'd like to get a trigger shoe for my Model 28-2 which is strictly used for range/target application. No holster, no carry. I have a shoe on my target 1911, and I really like it, as it guides my finger to the exact same spot on the trigger each time.

I've received information that either the old Ace # 1 or the Ace # 21 could fit the Highway Patrolman. I'm not certain of the accuracy of this information, however.

These items come up from time to time on ebay or GB, but I'd prefer to have the information on the proper Ace trigger shoe size before ordering one.

So, a couple of questions:

1. Can anyone advise the width of the non-target trigger for the Model 28-2 at about the center of the curve? I don't have a micrometer and my calipers won't work over the guard, and

2. Can anyone advise which number size Ace trigger shoe would fit this model trigger?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance -

According to an old ACE trigger shoe chart I have, #1 fits the "S&W Patrolman". If you have trouble finding one I may have some in my parts bin.
Mike

P.S. #21 fits a Winchester 52B

Very glad that you already know about holsters and trigger shoes. For those of you who don't, it's the modern covered trigger holsters that can interfere with the shoes, because the shoes are wider than the trigger guard itself. Target pistols were literally not designed for holsters, so neither was the shoe. The Threepersons-Style holsters with exposed trigger guard will not contact the shoe.

My 1956 Shooter's Bible confirms the info already given: all the S&W K and N frames used the #1 size shoe.

I also concur that the factory target trigger is mo bettah still :-).

This one came on my 28-2. If you haven't found one already, it's yours if you want it. I don't know what brand it is, though. Shoot me a PM if you want it.

I like pizza bob's reply. What I don't like about shoes is the two little dimples the set screws leave on the side of the trigger. If you are handy with a screw driver get a target trigger and lay it in. Not rocket science.

Once the dimples are there you can never get rid of them. By swapping triggers you still have the original for the gun.

Was never a fan of these. Always concerned they might loosen under recoil and they always seem to be a bit of-center, just what my OCD needs.

I checked them out on eBay out of curiosity and can't believe what they go for now; yet another thing I should have held onto over the years...
