Pawn Shop Find
Ran across a model 586, 6" blue, with Hogue grips. I would rate it above 90%. They are asking $590. What are these going for now?

In my neck of the woods, a little high for a dealer to make anything.
For end user retail, about right. The Pawn Shops down here put all guns on GB. Never make it out front.

Seems a bit on the high side by about $90.

If you like the Hogue stocks, that's OK. If you don't, you have added expense for others on top of it. Have you tried to negotiate the price? Bob

Gone are the days you could find great deals at your local pawn shops, and even gun shows for that matter.

Maybe a “find” but not a “deal”. Pawn shops pay half or less of advertised prices so don’t pay up for something they have been making since 1980. If you just have to buy it, offer $400 and hold...

Pawn Shop Find
Not a bargain but you aren’t being robbed either. No way a 586 is a $400 gun unless it is thrased. Getting it closer to $500 would be great but $550-600 is not highway robbery. I wouldn’t let mine go for $500. What I am going to get, a Glock...

LGS in my area has a 4" 686 for $549 OTD ($513.08 + 7% tax). They have a 4" blue GP 100 for $499 OTD ($466.36 + 7% tax) and a 6" 686 for $599 OTD ($559.81 + 7% tax) all in excellent cond., some with box/docs. I just bought a 66 No Dash from them at $599 OTD ($559.81 + 7% tax- no box/docs) Excellent cond and shoots like a dream!! So I'm very happy :-) I would haggle the price, myself....

Does it have the internal lock? If you care or do not care it is worth more if not

I don't know what it is, but you cannot get a deal in a pawn shop or fing old stuff in a LGs in RI. My LGS has a nice shop, and the only thing he see nice is what I buy and run through him from this forum. makes window shopping boring

I think that is a reasonable price for a high condition 586 for anything without MIM parts and internal lock.

For reference, I just picked up a 4” no dash in excellent condition for $550 OTD last week. Based on the prices I’ve seen, I feel like I got a pretty darn good deal. If your intent is to find a 357 Magnum shooter given it’s at (maybe above) 90%, I’d suggest you can do better than $590 if you are patient.

If it does not have the internal Lock, then any 586 for less than $600.00 by me.
I have only ever seen three in the flesh and I bought a 4"er for $650. Didn;t even try to haggle, just said I want it, I'll take it!
I would be all over it, honestly.
One of the best Revolvers ever made, and Post Pinned/Recessed guns it is THE BEST S&W revolver made. Even better then the 686. Same frame, I know, but they are just better.
My 586 is the best S&W revolver I have ever had, and I have had some good ones.

In the Reno area, that’s a fair price for a 90+% 6” inch, pre mim/lock 586.

For pre lock/MIM in California, that's unheard of.
More like 7 ~ 800 - if you can find one.

Wow! Y'all are finding 686s for under 600 bucks? Impressive.
I bought my 586 6" a number of years ago and I paid either 300 or 350 dollars for it. That was a private FtoF sale, and a number of years ago, to repeat myself. If you can get one for under 600 do it. If you can lop off 90 bucks great but they are too good to pass up for 90 more dollars.

I picked up a six-inch M586 no dash in nickel a couple of weeks ago for $550.00 OTD from a LGS. It's about 98% and was wearing Goodyears. I had a set of "K" frame targets in the stock box to put on it. I'm really happy with the gun and the deal

You could at least go to GB and seek out the sales of all m586's from recent sales to make that determination and also check out what I would think would be a good number of 586's, add the cost of shipping and FFL cost to determine if buying from a local pawn shop is the way to go or buying from an online site like GB. I would never let a seller hold be over a barrel without checking another option and in this case you have many as I would not consider the M586 to be that rare a find, it cost nothing to check and my feeling is that today's market has swung to be a buyers market, take advantage of it and remember how little the pawn shop has into the gun, should be plenty of room for negotiation.
