Smith&Wesson M49 serial number date/Years
Hi Guy
I'm from Pattaya city,I have question for you help.
I have S&W M49 S/N 4J2XXX and have S/N number in wood grip too. I don't know date and time for product?
Please advice me about it was manufactured? the S/N 4J2XXX

The SWCS book doesn't cover that number. The closest would put it early to mid 1980's.

Welcome! The unusual serial number format (a J with six total characters, five digits) puts this one in 1971 to early 1972, the so-called "floating J" series. The standard reference book has a typo in the J frame section, these years should be '1'J1 to 999J99.
Are the gun laws in Thailand very strict? Hope this is helpful.

About Gun Law in Thailand too many strict and many process when you need to purchase gun .
Process
1.First you need to request license to purchase gun by endorsement and approve from Village headman.
2.Check you criminal record check fingerprint by Police station each district.
3.Waiting 3 month for re-check criminal on you record by Royal Thai police in Bangkok.
(why long time because in Thailand government not have IT system online Used document paper only)
4.If you do not have a criminal record. The governor will approval license and
You can have a license for purchase gun in gun shop (Gun shop check license).but sometime It depends on the discretion of governor to judgment such you have many gun to occupy which may be not approve.depends on governor only.
Document your need preparation.
1.ID Card
2.Home registration
3.Certificate Employee from company include salary slip.
4.Home and deed ownership,Car Asset,Statement book bank, (Try to show to governor about I need to protect life and my property from thief).
5.Training Certificate "Basic used gun and law"
Gun in thialand very expensive example
Smith&wesson M60 in US about 601 USD but in Thailand price 2,656 USD = 85,000 THB bath

The gun laws in Thailand sound a lot like the gun laws in California. Sad. Very nice Model 49.

Welcome to SW forum. My wife and I went to Thailand in February 2018. It's a beautiful country and the people were very friendly. You have a very nice Model 49. One of my favorite utility guns.
I agree with date given just to confirm. 1971/72. The 5 digits is the key. It is easy to confuse the models made in 1982-1983 as they also have floating J but 6 digits. All J frames used that numbering system except the Centennials.

Howdy from Florida! My wife & I visited your beautiful city a couple of years ago, what an awesome place!
I have some friends that live in Pattaya Beach, one of which owns a really nice hotel on Soi 3 (BJ's Holiday Lodge).
I can't wait to get back! The north of Thailand is really nice as well, places such as Chang Mai, but I do like visiting Pattaya since I know folks there.

If I have opportunity will visit US but Visa very difficult.

Please let me know I will to take care you. I suggestion "Bangsaray beach or Sankaew beach very beautiful beach away from Pattaya beach about 20 KM
and seafood very delicious if you like.
