4" J Frames
A few weeks ago, I bought a model 31-1 with a 4" barrel. Being curious, I looked through the SCSW and could only find seven J frame revolvers with a four inch barrel: models 30, 31, 33, 34, 63, 631, & 651. Seems to me that there should be more but this is all I could find.
Anyone know of any to add to the list?

Wasn't there a small number of 4" Model 36s with square butt grip frames? I don't remember the dash number...

Here is a 4" J-Frame square butt for you. This one is a model 63
Both the Model 60 and 63 were offered in 5"
However they were not popular and got dropped from the catalog rather quickly

I'm not aware of any 4" blued or nickel Chiefs (Mod. 36s), but you never know with S&W. I'd like to hear from one of the several experts on this one.
Might be like finding "frog's" hair on the floor in your barber shop.

Here's a poor picture of my model 31-1 that I got a couple of weeks ago. Except for some holster wear on the muzzle, it's in excellent condition and the stocks are numbered to the revolver. I've only had one chance to shoot it but it did well with low recoil & good accuracy.
I thought also that there was a 4" model 36 or 60 but, if there is, it's not listed in the SCSW.

Here's my Model 34-1 with a 4-inch barrel.
S&W Model 34-1 "Kit Gun" in 22 Long Rifle with Altamont grips.
Model 34-1 with factory grips
Thanks for looking at my "Kit Gun."
God bless,

Does close count?
How about the mods 43 and 51? They have a 3 1/2" barrel, that's close? ! ?

The "6" in the first position of the Model number identifies it as stainless steel version of the blue / nickel Model 34.
Cheers

I didn't get a 631 4" when they were available, because it wasn't a square butt. Not my best decision...

Just found a set of NOS Smith and Wesson "Target" stocks for my 4" bbl Model 63.
Not sure that I like them better than the magnas that the gun came with, though. But I have both sets, so I can rotate them around.
Best Regards, Les
