Two of favorites for lots of shooters. I have the same two models as yours. Both are accurate shooters. I love the old standard tapered barreled models with the fixed sights.

Yeah, me too. I like blueing better than stainless, but I think I like matte blue better than all of it. I think matte blue looks better with all grip type materials.

Very nice Sir - those tapered-barrel 4-inch 64’s are hard to come by. Saw one a few months back and brought over $700.

I have a S&W Model 10 serial number R29268. My Dad gave it to me 40 years ago. I don't know when it was made. etc. Any information appreciated.

That's the first tapered-barrel 64 I've seen. Very nice. Mine's the heavy barrel, dang it.

I like the heavier barrels myself. However, I bought an M-64 no dash with the slim tapered barrel in the mid 70's shortly after they were released for sale and carried it for a while. Bought it at a local TG & Y store in Alamogordo, NM. The store had a really large and well stocked firearms and related products section. I wish I had kept that one! Traded it for something or other. I need to go back through my records and see what I paid for that one. I'm pretty certain it was less than $200.00. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it!

In those days, I was seldom able to own another gun of any kind without trading or selling one already in my inventory, and my inventory was pretty thin so I did lots of trading. Generally had one or two handguns that did not go anywhere so they were not candidates for trading plus another one or maybe two that I would trade. I have always had a soft spot in my gizzard for the Model 10's. The SS models are just as good, but I also prefer the blued revolvers as far a looks is concerned. These days, I mostly prefer the SS models for EDC and outdoor activities.

vrichard, those two are nice ones!!

That's a nice pair of K frames. I've had my 10-5 since I was 18, a police trade in I convinced my Dad to buy for me. Cost a stunning $200. I really learned how to shoot with that revolver, even carried it on the job for a while. I've lost track of how many thousands of rounds I've run thru it in the last 25+ years.

A couple of months ago I stopped in a gun shop and found a incredibly nice 64ND in the used case. Only the second one I coukd recall seeing in person. Got it for just under $500. It really shoots great. I have no intention of ever letting the 10-5 or the 64 go.

Those two guns look so pretty time to dirty them up on the range and get some carry wear on them!
K frames are my favorite and I much prefer blued. But could live with a tapered 64. Seems like yesterday when I could go into my local shop and choose from any of dozens of used k’s For under $200. I am sort of kicking myself as last Gun show I went to there was a 10 heavy nickel for under $300. Should have jumped on it!

I bought my S&W 10 4" heavy barrel for $43.75 in '64 from the NYC PD Equipment Section when I joined the NYCPD as a Patrolman. Once I learned something about reloading I always carried the Standard Remington 158 GRSWC bullet in a deparment issue Remington .38 Spcl cartridge case over a healthy charge of Unique. My loading produced 1050 FPS velocity with a loud report, muzzle flash and heavy reccoil. However when I shot a BG at 75 yds with a shot to the left knee the leg required amputation and put the BG down then and there. The weapon saved my bacon on at least 4 other days and I kept it upon retirement in '84. My gun was stolen in NM in '92 and if you run into C643963 I want it back! The fellow cab driver who was responsible for having the gun stolen paid me $200 for recompense. I added that money to a Model 10 snubbie and got myself a 586 with a 6" barrel. That is the most accurate revolver I own.
