Yoke Screw Question
Has anyone tried one of the new spring-loaded yoke retainer screws on an older gun that originally came with the solid screw?

I don't think it will work because the new model spring loaded yoke screw is a bigger screw than the older model screw. You would have to drill and tap that hole in the sideplate to even fit it.

cant do it. they made the screws bigger and would have to change yoke to new style and probably wouldn't match or mesh right

True. Older yoke flat groove. New yoke V groove.

I sure wish they would have left this alone. So easy to fit a sideplate screw for this location and its sturdy and works very well. Even easy to tighten up. The new system not so much. Little tiny spring and plunger??? Way more delicate to me.

Needs no fitting at the factory. Faster and cheaper (labor) to make.

^^^^^^^^^ This exactly. It saved them money in manufacturing and lessons the amount of skilled laborers they need to employ.

I prefer the new style. Like Colt has used for years, the spring keeps constant pressure on the yoke. Smoother opening of the yoke through out its arc.

My thoughts as well, which is why I asked.
Thanks for the replies, all; I've just gotten back into shooting and 'smithing and have yet to tear apart one of the newer S&Ws.
