Neat gun. With that serial number it looks to be 1982 manufacture after they stopped having pinned barrels. It needs to be wiped down! Nickel 2" Square butt Model 10's aren't the most commonly seen Model 10's so some nice combinations there. Being your Dad's gun, as Delta Rose said it's priceless. Welcome to the forum!

Can't tell condition from the picture, Some folks add a few dollars for a snubnose. Perhaps $400/450. To your Dad, probably much more.
As said, cherish it as your Dad did. It gave him much comfort I'm sure.

S&Ws bread and butter medium frame revolver, manufactured for about 120 years. Also known as the Military and Police, it was carried by police and civilians alike. The two inch barrel was mostly a post WW2 innovation.
The serial number dates it to 1982. Though your photo is not too detailed, I would say $500 at retail. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the Forum.

All too often, folks join firearms forums just so that they can get a value to sell family heirloom guns. Now, I understand the need, at times, to sell items in order to pay bills. So many others want to sell in order to buy the latest plastic fantastic 9mm, never thinking about the connection that can be had by shooting something that belonged to a cherished member of your family.

Rant over. Glad to have you here and glad that this handgun is special to you. Stick around and you can ask questions about what holster and ammunition to use, age of Daddy's S&W, etc.

I understand your rant, but I'm not looking to sale. My insurance asked me it's value and I really had no idea. Just wanted you to know☺

Hi Steelergirl:

My condolences on the loss of your father. Welcome to the forum. It's hard to tell the condition of the piece from your photo, but I agree that the $350.00-$500.00 range is a good ballpark.

Regards,

Dave

Welcome aboard. I too am glad you treasure your late father's gun.

I don't know if you are a shooter or not, but that one will be a pleasure to shoot and would make a fine nightstand home defense gun.

An occasional coat of Ren Wax will help preserve the nice finish.

If it's factory nickel, and in acceptable mechanical condition, around here, that's a $450 to $500 pistol. Nice piece . . .

That thing is beautiful. Are you going to shoot it? That would be a great Home Defense gun.

Welcome to the forum from Idaho.
My condolences on the loss of your dad.
If you spent time with your dad shooting or just outdoors, relish the gun and the time you may spend shooting it.
I have three daughters and no sons. All three shoot and the youngest hunts with me.
When i am no longer around they will all get some firearms. My hope is for them to enjoy and cherish the guns as much as I have cherished the time spent with them doing what I love.
I am sure your dad would feel the same way.
