Question Barrel length premium?

Based on the current market, all things being equal other than barrel length. Which would be valued higher, an M19-3 with a 2.5" bbl or a 3" bbl? Also what would that premium equate to, percentage wise?

According to my SCSW 4th the 3" is considered "rare" and could increase the value 4x in higher condition guns. It also puts the 2.5" at a 25% premium. Given that this reference info is at least 2+ years old and market preferences fluctuate I'm wondering what you all are seeing/experiencing currently? TIA

Generally speaking, the shorter barrels are higher priced. And that goes for just about any model I suppose. What the percentage is, I have no idea.

The SCSW4 gives you good info. Only thing you might do is add a little % on for the last couple years appreciation. The 19-3 is common enough it would be minimal.

Normally I would say the 2.5 would bring more than a 4 but a 3 model 19 would have to be worth a lot more because it is more rare. My guess it would be much like the model 66

Agreed. I would pay a little boot for a 3", because you just don't see them that often around here . . .

Yes, the 3 inch model 19's bring a premium due to that length being made in small numbers. Personally, given a choice between a 2 1/2 barrel model 19 and one with a 3 inch barrel, I'd take the 3 inch due to it having a full length ejector rod.

The last earlier Model 19 with a three inch barrel that I looked at, which was at about 95% was $4000. In this part of the world they are about as scarce as unicorn horns. I have seen exactly one in my life. Not talking about the later comp guns.

True, a 3” 19 will set you back about 4 times the cost of a 3” 66, because of their rarity. 3” 66s aren’t that rare, they’re just desirable.

A$4,000+ value in my opinion. Click on the photo for a much better look.

I gave $500 for my 2.5" 66 a few years ago. The last couple of 3"ers I've seen for sale around here were north of $1500. I've never seen a live version of a 3" 19.

I need to move to where you are then, because in my neck of the woods they are FAR from "not rare".

I've been looking for pre-lock S&W K-frames in 3" for the last 10 or so years in my area (2 states), and have bought everyone I've found, which is exactly 1.

Now I've turned down more then a few 2 1/2" models, but 3" in any pre-lock K-frames are far from common in my area.
