I have this heavy, black, 2 inch barrel, 357 Magnum revolver that I am looking for information on.

It is a hand ejector with 2 different numbers on the yoke, 33953 and Mod. 19-3.

On the bottom of the handle/frame, inside of the plastic HOGU GRIP cover the number 8K65201 is stamped into the metal frame bottom.

It was my brother's gun and after his passing away, I would like learn more about it, and to see if he had it registered in his name. It would make getting it properly registered much easier.

Your 2 1/2" barrel K frame 19-3 was made/shipped in/about 1975.

It is considered by many as the finest combat revolver ever made. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

I'm not sure but I think AZ does not require firearm registration. You will, of course, want to check this closely.

You are describing a Model 19-3 snub, the 8K serial prefix on the heel indicates it probably was made around 1975,
These were made in either blue or nickel finish and the common barrel lengths were 2.5", 4" and 6", Snubs carry a slight premium over longer barrel lengths.
There was a stainless steel version as well called the Model 66.

I live in Florida where firearms are not "Registered" ,
Check your local laws but Google says AZ is like Florida in that respect.

No firearm registration in Arizona, No permits needed to carry concealed or open. I don't even think the AZ DPS even has the ability to register a firearm. Probably the only thing they can tell you if it's stolen.

As a point of info, the barrel length is measured to the face of the cylinder,which is why everyone is stating that it is a 2.5 inch barrel, rather than the two inches that you gave.This model was never offered in a two inch version.

I just moved to AZ a few months ago. True that there is no such thing as firearms "registration." Gun laws are rated some of the best in the country if you're looking at it from "our side." You can drive around with that 19-3 loaded on your front seat if you want to. As mentioned, you don't need a permit to carry open or concealed, yet I went to all the trouble of getting one. It gives you carry reciprocity in many other states, no background check every time you buy a handgun, plus a few other fine points. Sure wish I had a 19-3 snubby. It's high on my list. The 19-3 4" was the first S&W revolver I got, and still one of the best shooting.

If you have possession in AZ and can legally own it. Then it is yours. No registration

I hadn't planned on keeping the gun. I have a pistols and couple of rifles, which I shoot pretty regular, but the 19 is a bit heavier than I like for carrying around.

It shoot well. There is a small amount blue wear on the barrel, frame and the cylinder, but no scraped or gouges there.

On the cylinder there are light scratches between trigger lock slots.

There is a scratch on the inside frame where the cylinder lock pin slides when it is opened for reloading. It is kind of like the cylinder lock release pin has worn down to where it is not releasing the cylinder completely.

When the cylinder is opening you can feel a bit of a drag in the process.

I am not a gunsmith, so I hope that I described all the parts so that you can understand what I am talking about.

Yes, no registration of guns is required in Arizona, and guns can be carried open or concealed. You can get a concealed permit but it is not required. Just don't take your gun into any federal building.

Several years ago I took a friend to the SS office. I was waiting outside, and felt a gun at my back and told not to move. They were 2 security guards, and they cuffed me, took my 1911 that I was carrying and took me into a room inside. They didn't even pat me down or look in my camera bag. Anyway the ICE officer came over from Phoenix, and he removed the cuffs and we walked outside of the building where he returned my pistol

He had a hard time getting the cuffs unlocked because the security guards put them on wrong. I guess I was their first dangerous criminal that they ever captured.

The ICE officer nicely suggested that I don't wear the gun even when I am just on the property.

This stuff is all perfectly normal.

I would rethink selling that classic S&W revolver, one because it belonged to your brother, and two because they don't make them like that anymore. Do a google search on Bill Jordan and you will find info on the history of the Combat Magnum revolver. I own several of them and mine aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Yes, so sorry for your loss. Go shoot it and it will sort of be like shaking hands with him. At least that's how I feel about the guns I have that were from people in my family that have passed away. And I've got quite a few. I also have a model 19 that was my Step Dad's. But mine is a 6". It is a very nice shooting gun though.

After 25 years of badge toting in the States and 5 years working in Kosovo and Afghanistan, I did 7 plus years doing security at a Federal facility. The men and women I worked with ranged from former cops like me to police wanna-bes who couldn't get LE jobs. The only time I did a "detention" (since we didn't have arrest powers under Federal rules) was when some idiot decided to threaten one of the government employees.

Having made more than my share of arrests and writing reports as a cop, I wasn't gung-ho about making arrests, or detentions, for technical violations. I accomplished the same thing by just asking the armed person to put their weapon in their vehicle. Of course, if there had been a true threat involved, I'd have been on them like white on rice.

That would be pretty much everyone on the Forum, plus many other Smith owners who should be. That said, it would be a shame for it to end up with someone outside of your family. Once gone, it's gone. I cherish arms that have been handed down to me more than their monetary value.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Hopefully you have room in your collection for this classic S&W. In years to come you will still have your brothers fine revolver, whereas the money you received from selling it would have been gone in weeks at most. Just my .02, fwiw.

I also suggest keeping it. First, it belonged to your brother and has family ties. Second, its a fine revolver and a great shooter. Finally, its an older pinned and recessed gun which they don't make anymore. It will only appreciate in value the longer you own it. Think of it as an investment.

Many are urging you to keep the weapon and shoot it...because that is what they would do. From your description of the piece I sense your experience with firearms is limited. If you could care less about shooting, don't feel bad about selling it. If you decide to shoot it, I suggest starting out with .38 Special.

Most all my life, I have owned and fired guns. I use to do my own reloading for pistols and rifles. My father was the same with guns and shooting as I am, and he taught both me and my brother gun safety, and how to shoot rifles and pistols. And he got me into reloading my own ammo.

I am in my early 70's so I would have to say that I am fairly well acquainted with firearms. I may not be up on all the guns that are on the market, but I don't have the need to be.

As for the model 19-3, it is a nice piece but it is not of any interest to keep around as a keep sake. I would much rather see in in the hands of a person who would enjoying having in their possession as a useable weapon that I understand is kind of special to some gun owners.
