New to me, serial number N225xxx. Is that from 1969?
My first 357 N frame. Look forward to shooting it.

Your six digit N2 serial number pistol was most likely shipped in 1974. Possibly early 1975 but nothing is ever definitive with S&W!

You should try to find some grips before you shoot it. Easier on the hands that way.

Great choice. I have one from the 60's and 70's. GREAT gun. A no frills model 27, minus some options

A little rough, but Flitz and Ren Wax will work wonders. Grips would help too.

I took it out to the range yesterday just to get familiar with the trigger and recoil. Shot Mixed ammo from .38 to .357. I never felt the recoil impulse that is common with the .357 cal. That "N" frame design definitely tames the beast.
I can shoot that all day long with no fatigue.

I have 2 Model 28 with 6" barrels. Both are quite accurate and handle recoil well. Enjoy.

I have never seen a Highway Patrolman revolver I didn't like. Yes they are big but with a quality holster and belt, they can be worn all day while wandering the desert. My preferred holster is the Cyclone 111 worn cross draw with a belt made by a long dead cowpuncher from Buckeye (Az). Enjoy it, shoot it often.

It will be more comfortable to shoot with stocks on it. (just kidding!) I have a 6" no dash, and would not mind a 4" also. Enjoy it! Bob

My wife promised me a bucket list gun, This 28-2 was not it. This just tickled my interests a little and I liked it.
I might have to look for a 95% gun w box, etc.

Just recently picked up a four incher, in great shape, with targets already on it. That made me think about the Olden Days, back in the late 70s, when guys were always looking for used target grips to put on their 28s. I'd have fifteen of those guns except I kept getting talked out of them in trades. If I was a girl, I'da been pregnant all the time.....

HP are great. Just purchased a four-inch dash 2 last weekend to keep my four-inch 1954 HP company in the safe. Enjoy that rascal you will love it!

I just got a 28-2 in fantastic shape last month. It is a big gun! .357 is easy out of it. I do prefer the feel of an L Frame so I bought a 681 2 weeks later. Definitely hit my gun budget for 2019 already! 6 guns in 2018! Even my usually supportive wife “you want it, get it. You work hard and you enjoy them” is starting to say “really? Another one? Think maybe it’s time to slow down?”

I picked mine up not knowing much about this model, just saw a pinned and recessed. 357 , 6", NIB and snagged it up. I will say, the gun has grown on me. And is a sweet shooter. If I come across a 4", I'll definitely try to get it.

Great Shooters
HPs are great shooters- accurate, fun, and easy on recoil. I have a couple of 4 inchers and a 6 inch, all Model 28-2s. Not as purty as my Model 27s, but that was the idea when they designed them. One of these days I would like to get a 5-screw HP from my birth year (1954). Enjoy!
