Hard chrome was a good choice for duty/field guns back in the 80s..... if it looks good and is in good mechanical shape $400-500 not a bad price for a utility/duty .357...... I'd prefer a 4" but it is what it is!

I'd say offer the $400 for it but if he won't come down much his asking price isn't unreasonable. The 6" will be perfect for a range gun and you can carry if you need to. Good luck !

A hard chromed model 27 with a 6 inch barrel for $495 and in very good condition? You can try for $400, but $495 isn't a terrible price. Maybe you can get an OTD price of $450 and feel really good about it.

A properly applied hard chrome finish is about the best you can put on a firearm. Extremely wear and corrosion resistant, with the 6 inch barrel it would be perfect for the range and woods carry.

++ comments for the positives on hard chrome finish. I have a 25-5 with it and while I criticized the "non-original" finish at first I've come to like it a lot. I would pay $500 in a heartbeat for a 27 nicely done in hard chrome. Good luck.

Buy it, and if you don't buy it and it's in Texas... tell me where.

As noted, hard chrome type finishes were very popular in the 80’s when owners wanted their guns to be like the stainless guns that were becoming popular. Not a bad price if it was done properly and reassembled with no issues. There are a zillion 27’s out there so if you don’t like it, you can replace it fairly easy and it would sell pretty quick.
