Default Round Butt?

Not referring to anyone's anatomy............ ha ha.

How common is a model 10, 4-inch tapered barrel, and Round Butt? (I believe this one to be possibly a 10-5, give or take. A friend has it and I did not look at the dash-number.

Thanks in advance. Bo

They are not that common, but not really rare.

I carried one as my issued weapon when I was a DC cop in the ‘60s.

When I worked for the U.S. Marshal Service in the early 2000's we were issued the round butt 4" mod. 10's. Then we got Ruger revolvers then finally Glock .40's.

Thanks, fellers.

My gun-trading friend has a 98% 10, 4-inch, blue, with round butt that I want to add to my growing segment of model 10s. I do not remember the "dash number." While trading to him for an Unfired, no-dash 64 pencil barrel in the box, I saw the model 10 and picked it up for a look as well. I walked away from the latter only to call him the next evening and ask him to hold it for me. Of the model 10s, the only other round butt I have is a really clean 2-inch.

Have known this guy for some 38 years. He will hold it until we see each other again. We are about 35 miles apart.

Since I do not have the RB 10 in hand, no photo is possible.

Seems I have a half dozen or more of each in models 10, 14, 15, 17, 18, 64, 66, 34, 63, 19, ----- and 3 to 4 in 27, 686, 586, 29/629, 625/25, 317, 2 clean model 67s, one clean nickel 12 in box, 2 model 43s, and 4 really nice model 624s. Can help it............always adding another one every few weeks.

Default Likely is a 10-5

I have a 4"RB in my meager Model 10 collection, and I recall our armorer having some back in the day which were issued to detectives who were unable to qualify with the standard issue 2" guns. I also remember, as Old Cop stated, seeing them on the hips of MPDC officers back in the 70's.

They make a great carry gun. I had a Model 64 2" converted with a 4" model 64 barrel, just because..... The ladies seem to like how it fits their hand.

Default 4" Model 10 RB

My Model 10-9 Blue, 4" Tapered Barrel shipped from the factory on 4/12/1996.

First photo shows the gun with the original Uncle Mike's RB to SB conversion grips in place:

Next photos show the same Model 10-9 after placing a set of my more favored K-Round Target Stocks on it.

Still laughing at the 35 miles apart. In MT we drive further for groceries. I hope it turns out good for your collection.

Oh that looks really nice.

Now what I'd really like to see is a 3" tapered barrel, Round butt 10. Did that even exist?

What did you do with the Uncle Mikes? You saving them?

Yes. The Uncle Mike's are the original grips, so even though the original owner threw a huge monkey wrench into the collectability of this gun by carving up the foam insert in the original box, far be it from me to do further damage by losing track of the original grips!

Foam insert is easily replaced.

RB > SB conversion grips crack me up since SB model 10s are so much more common than RB.

I passed on a tapered barrel 64 round butt. Regrets ever since.
A 10 round butt tapered would be very nice.

I just happened to have one of those. A Model 64-2, Round Butt, with 2" Tapered Barrel. A lot of folks don't realize the 2" 64's are Tapered Barrels, but they definitely are.

Model 64-2, 2" RB, Shipped 1981, Original Magna Stocks

Same Model 64-2 with a set of K Round Targets installed

A 10-5. About 98-99%

The original receipt from 1965 shows $71.50 + 4.85 for a box of ammo to total $76.35.
I paid many multiples of that, and did not get any ammo.
