Locking bolt from a 4" bbl? Maybe bbl. changed.

Looks like a replacement pin. The original would be rounded on the end.
Also the small retaining pin appears to have some scratches around it
as if it might have been removed with a punch.

The "Locking Bolt", that this pin is part of, is one piece. The forward portion is the spring guide. Length of the spring guide is not critical and it one area you can see a lot of variation in S&W revolvers, anywhere from below flush to protruding up to about 3/32". While yours is a bit longer than I recall ever seeing, as long as the locking bolt functions properly don't worry about it!
BTW, none of the ridiculous guesses above would explain this situation!
