Default New collector in need of help Model 19-4 with photos

Hello everyone!

I am a brand new member here at S&W Forums and I am just getting started into collecting the older S&W's.

I wanted to get some opinions on this Model 19-4 I picked up from an estate sale a few months back. Your welcome to give me an idea on the value but I think I have that nailed down pretty good, I am more interested in the coding on the box. I went and read through the forums for info I could locate about this box tag but I come up without many answers as it appears that the tag is maybe missing some information. Take a look at my model 19-4 and if you can help or just want to chat and give me your opinions I'd be interested.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Have a great day!

19-4 N for Nickel 6" barrel ST for Service type (it has later type targets on it). Special Features being the Patridge front sight. The rest is inventory numbers and the serial number.

Very nice revolver, doesn't look like it's been fired much if at all. I have a blued 19-4 (CHP Commemorative) and enjoy shooting it. I'm sure you'll find yours very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Enjoy it!

Thank you so much. I was unsure of what they meant. Is it normal to have all the blank spaces like are shown on my label? I also added some better photos.

Thank you. I really like it out of all my newer S&W's this older one is my favorite. I really do want to shoot it but it looks as though it hasn't been shot much what do you think? Shoot it? Or leave it alone? Will I hurt the value at all if I shoot it but take good care of it?

Should I try to not shoot it or is this one of those revolvers I should shoot and enjoy? Would you consider it a shooter if it was yours?

Yeah pretty normal. The labels were made to be generic and cover all models/options. If the gun has it, it's marked. If it doesnt, it isnt.

Yes, they left the TT, TH, FRONT SIGHT & WO empty, unless it had one or more of them. A 6" Model 19 came standard with a Patridge front sight.
For a 19 or 66 (don't know about N frames ,etc.) the "ST" in stock means it came with the (speedloader) stocks it has on. Earlier 19's with extractor relieved (football) targets had "T".

Does the other end of the box have a label with 0194046031 on it?

Yes it does. What does that indicate?
What do you suppose the value of this revolver is to a collector?

Hi,
Nice score. Please, enjoy it! They were made to be shot. Read up on care of nickel finishes elsewhere on this forum. You won't hurt it. The pleasure you'll get is worth the trade off of giving it some post-range TLC. Come to think of it, even the extra care is part of the fun!

Sounds like a plan to me. I am pretty well aware how to care for nickel finishes I actually make polishes for metal. Not just as a hobby that is my business I manufacture all types of reconditioning products for many various different industries a few years ago I developed a polish using Green jewelers rouge. It is absolutely phenomenal on absolutely any type of metal you can think of. I’m sure you are aware of the tiny hairline spiderweb scratches you get on a nickel finish this product polishes those out easily without ever risking damage of going through the nickel.

Nice looking gun for 38 years old. 60K=1980 plus it's the last generation with pinned barrel and recessed chambers in the cylinder.

It indicates that it's a Model 19-4, nickel, 6", square butt, standard features.
It's just their early product (order) code that they started using in 1980, very close to when they started using the speedloader targets.

No idea on the value. The prices things sell for baffles me, high and low.

My companies website is Distinctive Details. Product is 4032 Lazer Metal Polish. It is absolutely an amazing product for polishing delicate firearm finishes.

Me too. I guesstimate somewhere between $700-$900 but not really sure. It doesn’t really matter though cause this one is staying with me.
