Default Brass vs Aluminum on Mop and Brush

I have seen the answer to my question posted here before, but I didn't write it down and cannot find it now. When did S&W change from brass to aluminum on the bottom threaded ends of their mops and brushes that come with the tool kits. I assume the time change was the same for both.

I can't answer your question but I've had both aluminum and brass threaded ends on my mops and brushes. They both mount correctly on my S&W cleaning rod so I haven't given much thought to when S&W made the transition on their cleaning kits. I think S&W just packed whatever they had in stock when they put the cleaning kits in with their handguns. Likely the cleaning kits come from a subcontractor.

The change over was generally in the last half of the 1950s.

But it was a long transition period because inventory didn't run out of different caliber brass tools all at the same time. Brass mops and brushes turn up even later.
