Welcome! Copper wool and generous amounts of oil may be helpful to remove the rust. Nothing very abrasive or the bluing (aka pretty, uniform, dark rust) will be removed also.

If the grip is made for a square butt K frame it will fit.

There are a couple of foreign stamps on it and it looks like a 72 stamp. I'm thinking that was the import date, but wanted to confirm it.
