First LE Purchase - Atlanta PD
Stopped by local pawn shop in Birmingham yesterday and couldn't refuse opportunity to purchase my 1st LE marked revolver. Polished her up and replaced imitation pearl grips she was wearing. Even though it had a nickel job sometime in it's life I couldn't pass it up. There is an X (pictured) on the grip frame and also on the barrel flat along with a stamping on the crane. Any information regarding the stamp marks or other comments about my new addition will be much appreciated.

Nicely done! Probably dates from around Nov 1967.
88880 is an assembly number and should also be on the inside of the sideplate. It was to ensure all separate pieces of the same revolver were assembled together. All other marks are just fitter's marks.

I think refinished but well done. Looks cool. I like it.
BTW back in the revolver days nickel was popular with cops in the South. I have two nickel S&Ws that are without question original finish and were used by police.
