Default Requesting help with an S&W Model 18-3

When I open the cylinder, what I believe to be the serial number, 1K7290, along with MOD 18-3 is easily visible behind the yoke.

The same serial number is evident on the bottom of the frame.

I'd appreciate manufacturing and shipping dates if possible and -any- additional information anyone can tell me about this fine handgun. And maybe even what it might be worth in today's market.

I purchased it in -very- good condition at a gun show in an S&W "blue box with the metal corner re-enforcements". Unfortunately that box, (and its Model 18-3 was for a Topeka, Kansas Police Department cadet) and not for me.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome.
Circa 1971.
To get a more precise shipping date(you can't get a mfg date) would require a $75 letter request.

Welcome! It is the .22 LR version of the similar, very popular model 15, the ".38 Combat Masterpiece". It is no longer in production but is sought after in the used market.

Here is the link for the "letter of authenticity", which will give you more information and the shipping date (which is how S & W tracks the age of a gun) and destination:

http://www.swhistoricalfoundation.co...quest_form.pdf

Hope this is helpful.

PS: If pigs sprout wings, can they fly?
