Default Mod 66 prize gun

I have had this for quite sometime...1980 or 81 if i remember right.... from the gun shop i was told this was given as a first prize in a match in AZ...came with a wooden box with a plaque or something on it about the match...guy kept the box and the shop bought the gun....i traded a standard 66 with 6" barrel and $100 for it....Trigger is spectacular...case colored Target hammer and smooth trigger...with what i assume are rosewood grips...no dash 4K61xxx sn...so around 1973 i am guessing

wanted to share with those that appreciate fine art
Thanks for allowing me to join
Al

I believe those grips are made of goncalo alves, not rosewood, same as on my M66-1.

I think you're right.

Welcome, Al. I hope you'll stick around. This is a great forum, full of knowledgeable, experienced, and mildly crazy people.

Default Welcome

I believe you'll enjoy the forum.
That is a nice model 66. An early K frame is really hard to beat.
I have a 66 ND w/ 6 in. BBL also, it's a dang tack driver, even if I'm not.
Again, welcome.
Mine has some really nice target grips on it, I don't think they're original.
I sure like the looks of the ones you have.

This 1979 model 66-1 has been in storage for 30 years or so. It's now in the range bag for the next range trip:

I plan on testing its accuracy with some 38 SPL bullseye loads...

I plan on testing its accuracy with some 38 SPL bullseye loads...

I took mine to Germany in 1983...another GI had a reloader and he would load some .38 lead wad cutters for me...mine loved em....i swear they went so slow you could see the bullet trace

anyway an older german shooter (at a German club)...who was shooting a Korth next to me (and yes i wasnt smart enough when the Mark rate went over 3 to 1 is when i should have bought a Korth but to be honest i didnt even know about them back then)
So he is shooting single action 1 shot at a time...he would shoot, lower gun to rest barrel on bench, after a min he would raise gun a do another rd.
me on the other hand set a box of 50 wad cutters on the bench in front of me and shot 6 rds double action, dump brass and reloaded until i had the whole 50 shot...not really fast just smooth..

So the german has to wait for me to finish has he was going down range after every 6 shots...i think the range was 20 meters....so after iam done we go check the targets...i cant remember the but i think it was about a 6" black bull on maybe a ft square target....all of mine were in the black with most of the center shot out...the other guys were in the black but all over the place....I told him you need to get rid of that crappy Korth and get a S&W....
it was my time to help build international relations

Nice revolver.

My Mo State Highway Patrol Anniversary Commemorative came with the same grips.

I donít know. It was made in 74, I got it just this year. Maybe the rear sight was changed along the way, but the front sight has no red ramp.

I also like the grips having a fondness of the smooth target grips.
