Model 10-6

It appeared to be a mistake.
I just saw this model 10-6 chambered .357 magnum on a FB group. I said “this guy is an assh*le, ***? At the contrary NO , he isn’ t for sure.

Indeed, basically the “transition” to the Model 13. I think a few thousand of the 10-6 in .357 were made; can’t get to my catalog right now. A batch of these were for the New York State Police; I’m not sure whether those are marked, or otherwise identifiable other than by lettering them. They are collectible; I know that a few members here have one.

Yup. I've posted this before - I "almost" have one.

I picked up this 13-1 a couple of years ago that was an overstamped 10-6 frame. I found that very intriguing so I bought it. Not the prettiest in my little accumulation, but certainly one of the most unusual.

The initial run was approximately 1200 units on special order from the New York State Police. They are not marked as NYSP, so to verify they must be lettered.

The NYSP guns had smooth combat triggers and a target hammer (.375" wide spur). I own one that has been verified by Roy as an original example of the batch sent to New York. Sorry, I have never taken a picture of it.

Nice additional details JP@AK. You wouldn't happen to have any info on the SN series for that run, would you?

Mine is configured exactly as you describe - smooth combat trigger and 3/8" target hammer spur. It also has the just the right amount of holster wear that one would expect for a LEO gun - as you can see in the photos. Though interestingly enough the numbered grips are in pretty nice condition.

So now you've got me once again contemplating completing a request for my first ever S&W letter - for this gun.

Sorry, no. Mine is in the D707xxx range. Perhaps that helps, but my impression is they were not in a solid block of numbers.

Well, mine is the D770xxx range. If they weren't in a block then I guess being 63,000 serial numbers later doesn't mean much - other than that they were probably built the same year.
Guess I'm gonna have to cough up the dough for the letter....

Hope you guys will find this interesting. First page of factory letter on an FBI 13-1 from about 10 years ago. Tells the story about the 10-6.
