Default Hot Oil 17-3

This morning I went to have a Hot Oil Rustproofing (apparently a Vermont tradition among men my age and up) on my truck. I didn't realize it before I went, but the office was also a gun shop (uh oh! you know where this is going), so...earlier this morning in another post I was saying how I wished I had another Model 617 for plinking after putting a scope on my 6 inch 617 and was considering a new 4 inch 617 from an area LGS. Sitting there quietly calling my name from inside the glass display case was a very nice looking 6 inch 17-3. Needless to say, I now have an oil drippy truck sitting in my driveway and this gorgeous pinned barrel revolver sitting in front of me on my kitchen table.

All of my other Smith's are newer stainless revolvers and almost all dash 6s, if someone can help me date this one, the serial no. is 3K85788.

1972 by the SCSW 4, if I read it correctly. Good choice.

Thank you Old Cop! The closest I had been able to tell from online searches was the decade between 1967 and 1977. Based on your input, I'm right smack dab in the middle of that production run. Thanks again!
