Pawn shop Model 19-2 rescue *Update post #19* New grips are on it.
I found this 19-2 on FGT advertised at a Fort Lauderdale area pawn shop and since I was working over there, I decided to swing by and check it out. I was hoping it was an early 19-2 like 1961 early(my birth year), but that wasn’t to be the case. It’s a K795xxx, so that puts it right at the end of 19-2 production, even overlapping some with the 19-3. He had it advertised for $699 on FGT and a $799 tag in the case. I offered $600 and he said he’d take $625, which was close enough. Unfortunately it didn’t come home with me, Florida’s NICS system in Tally was shut down due to the storm(thank God Josh is home safe with us now...his Mom sure called that one ) I’ll have to wait until I’m working over there again, which has been pretty frequently lately. If I can’t wait, he said he’d ship it if I wanted. It was owned by a Miami detective who had it since new, which is pretty cool because Miami was my home town until I was almost 10. It came with the Herrett’s in the picture, which I think will go really nice on my recently acquired 66-4 4”. I’ll have to find a correct set of stocks for it, which shouldn’t be too hard. I’ve been looking for a 19 snub for quite awhile. My first revolver that I bought in 1986 was a brand new 19-5 and it was lost when it was stolen from a friends truck. I had sold it to him for a really good price, with the understanding that I could buy it back later. Anyway, I digress. Here are some pics of it, as that’s all I have to look at for the time being. Now I know how you guys in Cali and some other places feel when you say you’re waiting for your new toy to “get out of jail”
PS: Sorry about the lousy IPhone pics. The lighting makes it look nickel, but it is blued. Plus there was dust everywhere. More pics to follow.

Great Snag. Nice to find a gun that the original owner took care of.

Well, after a few weeks longer than I had anticipated, my 19-2 has finally made it’s way home. If you recall, the day I bought it the NICS system was down due to Hurricane Michael impacting the Capital. I only put $100 down on it to hold it knowing with our cruise coming up, I might need the money. Long story short, I finally got mrs. tlawler to free up some funds to go pick it up. I can’t wait to get out and try it. Maybe this weekend if I get some time. Here’s a couple quick pictures of it.

I’ve just figured out that the 19 fits in the S.D. Myers carved floral holster that I originally got for my engraved Chiefs Special much better than the CS does. I did pick up another floral carved holster from forum member Robbt for the CS that looks pretty good.

I’ve pulled the side plate and yoke assembly apart to clean it. The internals look pretty good, a little bit of wear but not bad for a 50+ year old gun. All of the assembly numbers match. I’m going to give it a good Kroil bath and lube it. It does have just a little bit of rust specking on the bottom of the trigger guard and other areas. I need to get some Renwax and polish it, maybe. Will just the Renwax remove the surface rust, or do I need to use something else first?

Mr. OP, they are by far the greatest little revolver S&W ever made.
Nice snag.

Glad you got it and are happy. Had one and traded foolishly. Bought it in 1978 or 79. Blued with the curved butt. Great snubby. Price for mine back then was $180 new. I see they have increased a bit in value!!!

Just a tad.
When I bought my 19-5 new in 1986 I think it was around $350 out the door.

Very nice! I have a four inch 19-3 with Herret's Shooting Star stocks. I find them to be a perfect fit for my medium sized hands.

I found these grips on that popular auction site. I like the grain and the little bit of extra scroll work to set off the diamonds around the escutcheon. Maybe paired with a BK grip? I think the combination would look dynamite on my new 19-2 even if they aren’t factory S&W.

Beautiful grips.
Here's my M19-3 (and my M12) with a similar setup.

I got to the range early this morning and finally shot it. I’m still waiting on the grips, so I had a pair of square K football targets on it. Other than a couple of light primer strikes, she shoots really well and very accurately. I’ll have to do a little tuning on it to get consistent primer strikes. I took my 15 year old with me for a daddy-daughter day at the range and she really liked shooting it.

Stocks came in!
I got the stocks earlier this week, but they needed a little fitting to set them in place, which I got up and did early this morning.

Those Altamont stocks are pretty. Easy to work on without losing sleep over it in the event they need a little fitting. Not like trying to fit a pair of K-round target grips, which would come with some pucker factor.
