Here is my only sample of the 29-2. I got this back in 1975 when these revolvers were rare and pricey. Retail was something like $225, I paid a lot more...

Been through a lot of handguns since I acquired this one, but it's still around ... that says something.

I really regret not bidding on that one. I am always on the lookout for another to show up but I don't have my hopes up.

Mr Rippert, great looking 4"! I'm curious about those American Holly grips (they sure do look like they might have come from that African holly variant - the four-legged holly tree :-) and I'm wondering who made them and what their contact info might be. Thanks!

I'm not John Rippert, but those beautiful grips were made by one of our forum members, John Culina.

He and his wife have just moved from California to Oregon. Shop may not be open for business yet.

Here is their new contact information:

Culina LLC
3626 Olympic St, Unit J
Springfield, OR 97478

John and his wife are both active members here on the forum, and their shop produces some beautiful custom grips.

Best Regards, Les

I bought this yesterday. It's a 29-1. It shipped to a dealer here in Massachusetts on August 28, 1962.

Wow! Some amazing guns and collections, here.
Always wanted to have one engraved. Still thinking . . ..
The short-barrel models are very hard for me to shoot. I have a 629-3 "Mountain Gun" with a barrel that is just short of 4". I got it in the '90s with the intent of carrying it when backpacking. With magnum loads it was just too painful, and the recoil was too distracting for good follow-up shots. I took some data from John Taffin and made my own ammo, 240-gr JHP at 1,000 fps from a 4" barrel. Still a hammer.

I later picked up a 629-6 "Trail Boss" from a man who simply couldn't shoot it any more. Got it dirt cheap. It's barrel is just short of 3" and I don't shoot anything more than .44 Special loads in it. And I don't ever carry it.

The Grand Prize of my "assembly" is a 29 "no dash" 4-screw I got from a hunter who could no longer go afield. 4" barrel, original grips, some holster wear but very little use.

This time of year I can carry two 29's concealed in Rob Leahy Simply Rugged holsters. I carried a pair all day yesterday.

From the bottom, 4" pre-29 most likely from early '58. 6 1/2" pre-29 from 1957. 8 3/8" N serial 29-2 from 1979. It's wearing a set of shoes from a late no dash 29 shooter just for the photo op.

The 29-3 Robert Squires Commemorative. Under-Sheriff Squires was the first Orange Co., CA. law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty, in 1912. The shootout at Tomato Springs is captured in the barrel engraving.

Less than 300 of these guns were produced.
