Question Need help with a 13-1

Hi Guys,

A good friend has just purchased a beautiful 4" heavy barrel model 13-1 square butt that is in fantastic condition it almost looks like it has not been fired.

Here in Australia you don't see very many model 13's so when this one came up he grabbed it. Now I know the story behind the model 13 and that the 13-1 was only made for 3 years but can anyone help me get closer to the date of birth for this one please ?

Serial number is #AAD15802
it also has 27867 plus a few other stamps on both sides of the grip frame like S, BJ and a 3 plus B3

Sorry I don't have any pictures because here in Australia we have to wait to get a permit to get the revolver which is now taking 1 - 2 months to get

Thanks for your help yet again I appreciate it.
A S&W revolver Aussie.
Jason

That is not the serial number. The serial number is on the bottom of the grip frame and should begin with D and six numbers or 1D or 2D and five numbers. The number you provided is most likely an assembly number visible on the frame with the cylinder open. Pics would also be very helpful.

Thanks for your reply Ken,

sorry miss understood what my Mate told me.

The serial number is AAD15802.
the S is on the grip frame and the number I thought was the serial number(assembly number) is where you thought it was.

On the crane it has a 0.13-1 and on the frame where the crane goes it has the standard MOD 13-1

Sorry no pictures until he gets it whenever the permit arrives.

AAD serial numbers were issued in 1981. Yes, this is a bit beyond the expected assembly period for the Model 13-1. All it means is the gas ring is still on the yoke on your revolver. The location of the gas ring is the only difference between the -1 and the -2.
