Beater Model 10-8 Brought Back to Life
Had another thread on me waffling back and forth on this one. Local shop had this 10-8 for $200. Had a pretty decent amount of rust. Insides weren't too bad but some parts were rusty and crusty. Full take-down and a week in automatic transmission fluid and for $217, this is what I have. The stocks numbered to the gun, which surprised me, but Magma's never fit my hand well, even with Tyler T-Grip adapters. It's wearing Pachmayr Gripper's now. Much more comfortable, but I'll keep the stocks around, of course.
First full tear-down I ever did on my own. It's pretty easy once you have the right tools and understand the process. Thank God for YouTube! This was a court officer's gun. Blueing is in very good shape. It's rock solid. No end-shake. No wiggle at all. Only blue loss is right at tip of barrel. Made in 1979 and probably never shot or even unholstered other than the annual (if that) qualifications.
Been cold and rainy here but I'll shoot it soon. Happy with the purchase!

Great! I like old things being brought back to ‘life’ and used.

Looking pretty good.
I really enjoy Model 10 revolvers. I have six police turn-ins - one in each bedroom of the house. No slides to rack; no safety to turn on/off; no jam's; just Point-N-Click....
Enjoy yours...........

Love it!
I took my Colt DS completely apart once and I think it was one of the funnest things I had done in a long time. I've yet to do a smith though. It's a lot different in there.

It really is very simple. Watch a few good videos and it was a breeze.

I don't believe you'll be disappointed. Granted my 10-8 has had springs changed but it is one of my most accurate shooters. Don't get me wrong, I love my Colt Pythons and 686-1 but, my 10-8 will shoot right along side them and perhaps surpass them out to 15 yards. The 25 yard line is where the 2 Pythons and 686 may be better. For a fixed sight revolver the 10-8 in my opinion seems to be the best one out there.

I’m sure I won’t be. Its not my first k frame by a long shot. I still have another 10-8, a 64, a 67, a K-38, and Ive had probably half a dozen other fixed sighted k frames. Just got a 681 no dash that made it easy to hit empty shotgun hulls at 40 feet. K frame grip just feels right to me.

I did that Colt without a book or da youtube. I was proud of myself. Only other gun I did that with was a mossberg 500. And they both work after me putting them back together. LOL.
I think I've actually watched a video of someone taking down a smith revolver. Or maybe it was them just putting in an apex kit and smoothing out some of the surfaces... I think it was on a Nuttinfancy vid. Or whatever his name is.
