What are the dimensions of a m29-2?
Hello Smith & Wesson forum community,
I'm making a realistic 3d model replica of Dirty Harry's gun.
The only problem is I wasn't able to find any blueprints of the gun, so modelling it is really hard. If someone would be kind enough to give me some of the measurements I would be very grateful. I'll leave a picture with all the needed measurements. You don't have to provide all of them, even 1 or 2 would help. If you have the gun and callipers to measure it that would be ideal.
Thank you in advanced,
Frano

Hi
An ambitious project!
The first thing to note is the gun in your photo appears to have an 8 3/8" barrel. The Model 29-2 used in the movie had a 6 1/2" barrel. There is absolutely no doubt about that.
I cannot do it now, but this evening when I get home, I'd be glad to pull a Model 29-2 out of the safe and provide the other measurements you have requested.

M29-2 dimensions
Here's what I got for you:
M1 = 4.892"
M2 = 2.582"
M3 = 3.821"
M4 = .771"
M5 = .713" (just above where your picture is labeled M2)
.
.

Using a dial caliper, I got the following measurements:
M1 = 4.89
M2 = 2.587
M3 = 3.87 (To the top of the sight leaf; less if you measure to the top strap without including the sight leaf.)
M4 = .898 (It depends on where you measure. The barrel tapers toward the muzzle.)
M5 = .655 (More if you measure where the yoke attaches, as bluedot37 apparently did.)
