Welcome! This one is likely from 1967, presuming there is not a J in front of the number. Others here may get you a specific month (or a different year ). Enjoy!

Welcome aboard from Wyoming.

All the ones on either side of your serial number on my list shipped from the factory in the spring of '68.

S&W didn't track manufacture dates, only ship dates, and the company didn't ship in serial number order so anomalies abound.

Welcome to the forum from a fellow Buckeye and congratulations on your first post and acquisition of the Model 36.....

Early J frame serial numbers
For models 36, 37, 38, 49, 50 and pre model number versions.

1950 = start at 1
1952 = 7369 - 21342
1953 = 28916
1955 = 55050 - 75000
1957 = 117770 - 125000
1962 = starts at 295000
1969 = ends at 786544

I have a Model 36 with 716xxx serial number which dates to 1968.

Oh....and we like photos!!

Welcome to the best gun forum I've ever found. I hope you'll stick around, and tell us how that nice little revolver shoots.
