13-2 Safe for Magnums?
I recently picked up a nice 13-2 4" at a gun show. Had my neighbor, Ron Power, check it out. He says it looked like there were less than two hundred rounds through it, but don't shoot a lot of magnum rounds through it. I picked this up, because I came in to a couple thousand rounds of new .357 Magnum rounds and had nothing to shoot them out of.
Thanks

Sure, it's fine to shoot magnums from a 357 magnum gun.
Being a K frame, I would avoid excessive use of ammo with the lighter 125 grain bullets.

Thanks. Curious about the 125 grain bullets? Too fast, maybe??

Excessive use of light bullets in K frame revolvers leads to cutting into the top strap. You can shoot all the 147-158 gr bullets you want

Welcome to the Forum.
The lighter weight bullets don't seal the barrel/cylinder gap as well and the excess gas cuts the topstrap. Plus, the bottom of the barrel has a cut there for the yoke to close. That's a weak spot.

Thanks, both of you! Seems everything I have is 158 grain in various configurations.
Thank you for the welcome, also.

Somewhere around 14-15000 rounds of " full magnum " loads you might notice it starting to loosen up a bit . Until then , no worries . And those " full magnum " loads would have to be mighty hot , some based on " yesteryears " load data which can be hotter than a depot stove . For yrs off and on I shot a 180 gr cast bullet I cast myself on top of a max load of W296 using current load data out of a K-frame 357 . Still as tight as the day I bought it . They are NOT the weak sisters others will tell you . Just stay away from the 125 gr and lighter bullets in magnum loads and you will be fine . In 38 spl , the lighter bullets is not a problem . Regards, Paul

Welcome also. You can easily put “several thousand” full .357 rounds through a K frame but you will probably want to intersperse some .38 Specials, and not do them all in one day . Enjoy!

It's a .357 Magnum revolver. Yes, you can shoot all the .357 Magnum ammo thru it you wish. Will it ever wear out? Sure, everything mechanical does. But your hand's liable to wear out long before the revolver does.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. I think what Mr. Power was concerned with, is the forcing cone cracking. But, after shooting some of his loads in a different gun, I could see it.
Thanks again!
