My favorite caliber. Your's?
My favorite is the .357 Magnum. This 28-2 is what got me started with .357s. Today I have 18 .357 Magnums.
2 M19-2, 7 M27s, 1 M28-2, 1 M60-14, 1 M640-1, 1 M66-1, 1 M520, 1 M627-2 & 3 M686s.
Including my two rifles I only have 6 other calibers. .38 special +P, .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, 45 ACP, .22 LR and 7.62x51.
Not much of a variety is it?
Do you have a favorite??

By the amount of pistols I have that shoot .38 I would have to say that is my favorite. Course a bunch of then are actually .357s.
Just to be all inclusive favorite center fire cal is 25.06 (only have one in that caliber!) Favorite rim fire (22LR) is a Ruger 7722.

.38/.357. Readily available in most locales, pleasant to shoot, effective, and come in a variety of shapes/sizes (i.e. plenty of different loadings and bullet types from mild to wild).
The 9mm is a close second and my current choice of carry due to switching to a semi-auto platform. I would place the 9mm in the same family as the .38 due to both being essentially a 36 caliber bullet.

My EDC shoots .38 Special +P.
I tried a semi-auto but ended up coming back to a small revolver.

Favorite caliber . . . .22 LR. Suits me for my 18-3 and my Ruger 77-22. However, when it comes to centerfire, I prefer .38 Special and .30-06 Springfield. Sincerely. bruce.

You still haven’t shot it? I thought you would have by now.
Shooooot it!
Hard for me to pick a favorite. I’d have to narrow it down to favorite revolver caliber and favorite semi auto caliber. That would probably be .41 mag and 10mm...(closely followed by .357 mag and 357 Sig.)

The versatility of the 38/357 is hard to beat. Mild to wild is a perfect descriptor.
If we want to get a little more esoteric, I would have to say the 357 MAXIMUM. It is an obscure caliber used by silhouette folks who like shooting 100 to 200 yard steel with a revolver. To me, it is the perfect match of accuracy at distance with reasonable recoil. The downside is cost, $2 each. You gotta handload and then they are $.14 each.
The instant feedback from the ringing and singing sound of steel is hard to beat for fun and the pure joy of shooting.

I'm past being ready to shoot my M58.
For some reason the last couple of months have been really busy.
Soon. I keep telling myself, soon.

My Smith's are my "children". How can you show favoritism to just one???
For me today might be a .38 day. Tomorrow may be a 45acp day or .22 day. Don't limit yourself.........All are favorites.

I like variety.
But if you go by number of guns- .32 Long. ( a lot of I frames)
But for maximum range fun, it's .460 Mag. all the way

If you're talking revolvers, it's a four-way tie for 1st.
In no particular order my choices are: .41 mag., .357 mag., .44 Spl., & .38 Spl.
If you're talking pistols - there is but one answer and that would be .45 ACP in a 1911. No further discussion required.
Rifles? Simple answer, difficult choice - .30 cal. Could be 30-30 Win. or .308 Win. or 30-06 Springfield or .300 Win Mag. All are mission specific, all have some overlap, but ALL are Outstanding.

My favorite is the 45acp of which I only happen to have 2 at the moment. I could go for a nice target 45. I gave the last one to #2 son. I keep doing stuff like that then I end up with a hole in my inventory

As much as I like seeing a 240gr 44 Magnum rip things to shreds and sky high.
I like to hike with my 22lr handguns, to draw and shoot at lizards and other small things. And I can just simply shoot them better than any other caliber.

.44 Remington Magnum, by far.

Head and shoulders above all others is the .357 Magnum.
After that, and in no particular order of favorites are .38 Special, .41 Magnum, 44 Special, 44 Magnum and 45 Colt for revolvers.
In pistols I like 9mm hollow points, followed by 45 ACP RN FMJ.
I rarely shoot .22 LR, and I have no regard whatsoever for anything larger than .44 Magnum.
For rifles it would be .30-'06, although my favorite rifle type is the .30 caliber AKM.

.22+.223+.308+.38+.357+9mm+.40+.44+.45+.454+.460+12ga.

I guess I have to agree with that. Followed by .45 Colt.
Oh, I see that's an insufficient answer based on other replies.
In pistols these days I favor 9mm. The foregoing was my revolver answer. .45 Colt is my cowboy action lever rifle answer, too.
But rifles are a completely different story. For various and different purposes I'd say .308 Winchester, .35 Whelen, and .223 Remington. I am selling my M1A or .308 would be accompanied by 7.62 NATO but I am done with that specific caliber and rifle.

Skeeter Skelton fan here, so .44 Special. I have 8 specifically .44 Spl plus 2 .44 Mag - which, of course, can also shoot .44 Spl. Total 10
Close second would be .45 ACP. I have 9 .45 ACP's (includes 3 Semi's), plus 1 .45 Colt/.45 ACP. Total 10
Rifle would be the Model 71 Winchester in .348 Win. I have two - one original Deluxe with a 3-digit serial number and one Browning High Grade.
I have guns in 28 unique calibers plus 20, 16 and 12 gauge.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

I believe that it is better to have more ammo and not need it than to need it and not have it. Hence, I have moved to semi-auto platform in 9mm. That being said, I recently had hand surgery. If it does not completely recover as I hoped, it might be more prudent to switch back to a revolver. Just guessing that a revolver with Pachmayr gips will fit my hand better if it doesn't recover. I will give it a year to see what happens. Should I switch back, it will most likely be a S&W 640 .357, or my grail gun, a 640 no dash .38 special if I can find one.

357 is the winner here for favorite to shoot. my everyday carry is 38 special, so that will come in as #2.
not a big rifle fan, but i do have a couple 12 gauge shotguns for when i don't want to fuss with precision aiming.

I shoot more 357mag than any other caliber. Second is 44 mag. I think if I reloaded, I would shoot 41 mag the most tho.

It really depends on what day you ask me!
Right now, I'd have to say the .38 Special, with the .44 Magnum as a very close runner-up (it's just SO versatile!), and the .357 as a really close third place. They're all practically tied for first place.
In rifles, the .22 LR and the .30-30 Winchester.

.45 Colt. I have owned more .38/.357 platforms (and still do) and had fun with the .44 Spl/Mag (and still). If I had to limit my self to one handgun it would be my 642, but you asked favorite. The .45 Colt in my 25-5, Ruger Vaquero or Winchester 94 always brings a smile.

22lr. I shoot these mostly. For centerfire I like 9mm in auto's and 38/357 in revolvers. If I had to go after something requiring larger power arms I would choose a shotgun or rifle as appropriate.

About 50 different cartridges are used here in the various guns.
Top five handgun cartridges:
.38 Special
.22 Long Rifle
.45 ACP
.44 Special
.32-20
Top five rifle cartridges:
.30-06
.22 Long Rifle
.220 Swift
.257 Roberts
.32-20
I guess .38 Special's tops for handguns. .30-06 for rifles.
The 12 gauge 2 3/4-inch (and not any magnum 12 gauge rendition) gets the call when the going "gets serious," be it dove, quail, waterfowl, critters, or if I felt the need to break out a shotgun for defense. There are not too many problems in life that cannot be solved by the application of 12 gauge.

Mine in 327 Federal.
Wish Smith would make a Scandium centennial in it.

Favorite caliber . . . That is easy, 41 Magnum. I love the accuracy and versatility of this cartridge
Calibers that I shoot the most ammo of . . . that is a toss up between 9MM and 357SIG. This is due to the fact that these are the two sub-machine gun cartridges that I fire the most
Caliber that I own the most firearms in is without a doubt the 357 Magnum

.357 Magnum and .38 S&W Special. .22 Long Rifle is a close second.
A few photos of my favorite shooters:
A well-used pre-27 long tube with a McGivern gold bead front sight:
A ported and refinished Model 19-4 snub:
A 3" Model 66-2 with a McGivern bead:
and a scoped 627-5 (because 8 shots of .357 is way cool):

Well I see many went into rifles also, so for rifles my choice is the 30-06. It is the largest caliber I shoot with comfort, and it is still getting it done after 100+ years.
In a smaller class, the 22-250. When you handload this, and tune a load to your barrel, these are fantastic shooters

I own as many .22 handguns as I do center fire, and I own twice as many .22 rifle's as I do center fire so that must be my favorite.
I love shooting .44 magnum,never shot a .44 special.

Since the question was posed in a revolver forum, I’ll go with .38 Spl., although 9mm is a close 2nd (and also available in revolvers, I guess). Both are reasonably good for SD, have manageable recoil and are economical to maintain proficiency with. I’ve owned and carried magnums in the past, but since I no longer have any use for them, now confine my accumulating to calibers more appropriate to my personal preferences/needs.
Good shootin’

.357 for revolver, .45 for semi auto, and .30-06 for rifle. I'm an old school kind of guy!

All of them. But I mostly carry and shoot 9mm.

My favorite, 44 mag. I'm kinda hooked. The count is at 27 to date. Always looking for the next one.

Which is exactly why I collect M1917 and Victory/Commando revolvers...………
I dunno how a couple of 28-2 HP models weaseled their way into the collection.
