I LOVE the KB's on that 57... AND the leather is outstanding (as expected from you).

Thanks for sharing,

That one right there brings new meaning the phrase "Long Tube Revolver". A better description for that bad boy would be "Looooooooong Tube Revolver". It's tough when you have to put your phone camera on panoramic mode just to get it in the photo...

Thanks for sharing,

My longest tubed revolvers are not S&W guns but Rugers and Freedom Arms with a TLA thrown in for good measure.

I never wanted an 8 3/8" S&W revolver until I saw this 27-2 about to sell
for too cheap at a local consignment auction. The tapered barrel gives
the Model 27 great balance and beautiful looks. Don't have many pics
but here it is leaning against my trusty microwave

Default How about two more long tubes for the mix...

I almost forgot about these two sweet gems.

First is a DWM Long-Barreled Navy Luger, a commercial product between WWI and WWII. Not a carbine, although it is equipped with a stock attachment. This particular piece has a 16 inch barrel. Some were even longer, up to 24 inches.

The S&W is a model 29-3 Silhouette .44 mag with a 10 5/8 inch barrel. Makes you want to "Reach out, reach out and touch someone" as the song goes.

Best wishes everyone!

Same ol ones here. All purchased new in early 1980. I was on a long-barreled kick.

Model 29-2

Model 14-4

Model 17-4

There used to be an 8 3/8-inch Model 27 on hand to go with them, but when it was discovered to have a "slow barrel" it later went away in favor of the 6-inch Model 27 that would yield higher velocities over the chronongraph with any load tried.

Default Long barrels

I love the long barrel guns. My philosophy was you might as well get the most steel you can for the money. New guns generally cost the same regardless of barrel length.
My longest S&W is a 29-2 6.5 inch, but I have a Colt Python 8 inch, a Colt Trooper MKIII 8 inch and a Ruger MKII target 10 inch.

"One of my favorites from Gander Mountain. It was mislabeled as a Model 27 and mispriced as well. It actually was a 1956 pre-27 that appeared unfired. No box or papers. I felt real bad carrying it out of the store for $295."

Sometimes you have to love Gander Mountain for what they don't know about old guns, got a early 1950's K22 there once for 199$. The young guy behind the counter kept trying to switch me to a "new and better" semi-auto plastic wonder for a few dollars more.....

REG 3261, an 8-3/4" barreled pre-war Registered Magnum that was my first long-tube revolver ever purchased ($975 delivered). I believe it was factory refinished somewhere in it's life (star on the butt) and the trigger guard was drilled for a trigger stop. Other items of note - it shipped from the factory to King Gun Sight Company, where it received a cock-eyed hammer. I added the Keith Brown Kearsarge Stocks and a gunsmith friend of mine switched out the front sight for a "gold" one. It does not get shot very often, but it is a blast when I shoot it. The action is like butter and it has a beautiful sight picture.

You can see the trigger stop screwed in the trigger guard in this closer up photo:

This next one is my very favorite revolver to shoot. It is a well-used 8-3/8" barreled, late 1950's pre-27, that has had a Nelson Ford trigger job, a radiused wide trigger with a screw-in stop, an added "McGivern" brass bead front sight, and a set of 1960's smooth presentation stocks. It seems to magically hit whatever I am aiming at and I love shooting it.

With the tapered barrel, these long .357 Magnums really do point well, and with target stocks, they are surprisingly well balanced to shoot.

That long tube REG Mag is a gun I would really like to see one day. I bet it shoots great and likely King touched up that action some. My King shipped OD has a incredible action job.

The cockeyed hammer is icing on the cake.

Default Can I play too?

My late cousin liked N-frames, and these were some of his favorites. All with target stocks, hammer, trigger, 8 3/8 barrels. All have been shot, but very little. I bring them out occasionally.

27-5, 57-3, 29-3, and 25-5

I first posted these pictures in a thread back in 2012. Since then I have added an 8-3/8" Model 15-5 (no picture, but it is for all intents and purposes identical to a Model 14), and custom built 8-3/8" guns in .327 Magnum and .44 Special.

Of course, those are just the Smiths (and one Dan Wesson). I have other brands with long barrels....

I'm glad to see this thread resurface. I've added a couple long toms since. A 629-5 Extreme Hunter one off made for one of the factory higher ups.

And a recently purchased 629-4 8 3/8s barrel.

I had a 7.5" Ruger Super RedHawk in .44 Magnum until this last year however I'm shortening up these days as the budget and life expectancy is shortening as well. Enjoy them as they are a joy to own and shoot!

I bought my 19-3 at Gander in Kenosha for what I thought was a bargain price.

Not a born as long tube this Post War M&P has a King hammer, rear sight and action work. At some later date someone added the 8 3/8" Model 14 barrel. The smooth target stocks have been modified with LH finger grooves which is OK with me. The jeweling inside the action is a neat addition. Not a lot of value because of the mods but fun to shoot and very accurate.

I love it!!! For whatever reason, the modified ones always get my attention. Perhaps that I why I'm also drawn to the engraved ones...

I would love to know more about the bottom one.

It is a beauty and the presentation case is terrific

Default Late to the party

I have a pair of 8 3/8" barrels. One is the model 629-1 I inherited from my Grandfather. The other is a 586 ND that fell in my lap last spring.

Default long tubes

Thought I'd post a photo of some of my long tubes. I really like these long barreled revolvers.

The one on top is a 29-3, middle is a 14-4 and on the bottom is an 18-3.

Needless to say the Model 29 gets the most attention at the range.
