Default Feeling the Need for a Long Tube Revolver Thread

I would love to see photos of your Long Tom's.

For whatever reason, I have grown to love those revolvers with the 8"+ barrels.

I'll start us off with a clean Model 27-2 sporting some Birdseye Maple Kurac stocks.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have.

Thanks,

One of my favorites from Gander Mountain. It was mislabeled as a Model 27 and mispriced as well. It actually was a 1956 pre-27 that appeared unfired. No box or papers. I felt real bad carrying it out of the store for $295.

I bought this off gb. It was advertised as excellent condition, and I wanted an 8” 357 shooter. Well, it was excellent all right. Soot rings on every other chamber mouth and showed up in the original box with docs. The auction opened south of Highway Patrolman value and I was the only bidder...thanks guys! I will say the 8” 27 balances shockingly well.

1971 27-2

All I can offer is a 6 1/2 inch pre-model 29. For me, a revolver longer than that is for the range only.

I just brought this 1961 M-27 home today. My only 8 3/8".
I recently sold a ANIB nickle 8 3/8" M27-2 to help pay for this one.

Top to Bottom:

48-4
29-2
57

The M57 started things off, I got it as a trade for my Sigma SW40F.... the guy really wanted a Sigma and I was more than happy to oblige.

These are all different calibers. My 25-5 is not in this photo. I have enjoyed the 8 3/8" barreled revolvers for many years.

I love having and also shooting them. So fun. Something special is the way they handle, point and shoot.

I have only 2:
629-1 and a 14-3

Well, I have only 1 long tube, Model 16-4. With the full underlug it is a bit muzzle heavy, but very accurate.

Kenny,

You need to change that. The long ones really are a delight to shoot. These are my two shooter grade long ones:

REG 3261, an 8-3/4" barreled pre-war Registered Magnum that was my first long-tube revolver ever purchased ($975 delivered). I believe it was factory refinished somewhere in it's life (star on the butt) and the trigger guard was drilled for a trigger stop. Other items of note - it shipped from the factory to King Gun Sight Company, where it received a cock-eyed hammer. I added the Keith Brown Kearsarge Stocks and a gunsmith friend of mine switched out the front sight for a "gold" one. It does not get shot very often, but it is a blast when I shoot it. The action is like butter and it has a beautiful sight picture.

You can see the trigger stop screwed in the trigger guard in this closer up photo:

This next one is my very favorite revolver to shoot. It is a well-used 8-3/8" barreled, late 1950's pre-27, that has had a Nelson Ford trigger job, a radiused wide trigger with a screw-in stop, an added "McGivern" brass bead front sight, and a set of 1960's smooth presentation stocks. It seems to magically hit whatever I am aiming at and I love shooting it.

With the tapered barrel, these long .357 Magnums really do point well, and with target stocks, they are surprisingly well balanced to shoot.

My Model 14-3 Target Masterpiece made in 1977. And a photo with it's brother from another mother, a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum with a Bisley grip.

It's been a hoot watching this thread grow with pics. I always had the notion that the 8-3/8" bbl guns were not very popular with people and as such, not widely held. The guy that sold me my 48-4 was ecstatic to finally have someone interested in it, as he had it posted on a local gun forum for months with nary a nibble.

But boy howdy, this thread is certainly proving me wrong... keep 'em coming.

Well, the length of the snoot depends on the size of the frame

How about some little guys?

Of my S&W revolvers, 6-inch barrels are a long as mine go. But my Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) main match guns have the 7.5-inch barrels.

Uberti Model P in .45 Colt

Uberti Open Tops (Navy grips) in .45 Colt

Thanks for looking at my cowboy revolvers.

God bless,
Birdgun

Here are a couple of mine.

Does a 657-4 7 1/2" qualify?

Default Long Tube Revolver Thread

Here is my most unusual long tube. It's a 18-3 from 1974

Default Group Shot

Thanks for sharing all of your great guns!!! With the inspiration of this thread and all of your beautiful long tube revolvers on display, I got out all of my 8"+ barreled N Frame .357 Magnums and took a group photo.

Registered Magnums on the top left, Pre-27s, a 27-1, a couple of Model 27s (no dash), 27-2s on the bottom right of the second column and a representative sample of the boxes that housed the long guys as they left the factory. Oh...and there is an 8.5" Transitional Magnum somewhere in the middle of that left column.

It was a fun morning...

I recently completed the 686 collection with the 8 3/8" version.
It's had a hard life most likely floating around under a truck seat

Now I need the 629 equivalent to complete that collection

A model 57 with Keith Brown grips that shoot just as good as they look.

With a suitable S.D. Myres holster.

Default 629 Extreme

Hello friends,

Well, I feel compelled to bring out "The BIG BOY" a model 629-5 Extreme, with a 12" barrel.

Oh the abuse I suffered when my transfer came into the local gun shop. "You must be compensating for something." (Comments from my buddies.)

"Yes, yes I am"... with a big smile to go with my big gun.

Still unfired in it's original box, etc. I paid about $1,100 delivered, many years ago (2001?).

Best wishes everyone!
