New grips on model 19
I have posted pictures before on this model 19-3 in the state in which I had bought it. It came with cream colored target grips that are okay but I needed it to be better. I found some period correct football target stocks that fit the gun perfectly and are in really good shape. I think the $75 is money well spent as the gun looks original and perfect to me now. What do you guys think - improvement or should the white grips go back on?

The Ivory looks like it might look good as well...
I have a 27 nickel I want to try Ivory's on. But the original ones look classy.

I tend to like darker stocks on a nickel finish.
Here for example is my Model 19-3 with Argentine Rosewood stocks.

Grips
I like dark grips on stainless and light on blued guns . never had a pair of white but i bet they make nice blueing POP . nice looking grips and revolver . kenny , texas

Guess I'm a purist, but I always like a gun to look like it left the factory that way.

IMO, Real wood is better than fake anything. If white grips are what really makes the gun "pop" (aesthetically speaking), then they should be ivory, lightly barked stag or holly. You did good.

On nickel or stainless guns, the darker the grips the better the contrast. There are exceptions, but generally I favor darker stocks on my “silvery” guns. Then again, you have to please yourself, so if you like them daddio202, that’s what really counts! If you’re looking for my approval, you certainly have it!

The original grips for the M19 were Goncalo Alves I believe. They can vary considerably in figuring and color. Yours could very well them.

Depends on the intended use of said model 19. For pure shoot ability, all my S&Ws get Miculek grips on them. The 357s, 41s, 44s, get the checkered ones to ensure no movement, the 38s get smooth.
(of course, I keep and catalog all my original knock offs for resale if needed)
I think they look great. The purist here will sneer at my post! Those who shoot combat courses of fire or competition will be fine with my post!

I LIKE it. It looks great. I prefer OE grips over aftermarket grips. I like my cars like that too.
My brother carried this 19-1 for the first 10 years in LE and I got it with these grips on it.
I can't tell you if they're Pachmayr or Hogue without digging them out.
About a year ago I sold my 68-2 CHP and kept the grips that were on it and replaced
them with another set of era correct Targets.
I think these are the perfect grips for this gun.

Here's my 19-3 shipped June 1976, I don't know if the speed loader cut out are correct but that's what was on it at the time of purchase.

It looks great. A while back I got these rosewood Hogues on Ebay for my nickel 19-4 that came with fake black pearl grips (YUCK!!). But I decided to put the Hogue’s on my 18-3 and put these targets I’ve had for years back on the 19. Come to think of it, the targets were on the Model 18 when I bought it around 1986. I think I was told here once when showing both sides that they are right for this gun.

Generally speaking, I like wood grips on anything. I had a set of "bonded Ivory" on a Model 58 at one time and thought they looked good on the blue, but they were "too white" for my taste.
On "white" guns, either stainless or Nickel, I like darker grips. Even "goodyears" look good on them, but wood of course is better.
I got this 581 a couple of weeks ago. It had a really ugly set of Hogue's on it, but I was able to find a set of football targets in my "stuff I might use someday" drawer.

I think that era should still have the "football" cutout. My 1980 vintage 29-2 still has it.

I favor darker stocks on nickeled or stainless guns - factory if possible. Here's an example on a superb Model 66-1.

My 4" 19-4 came with the original wood grips which looked good, but were very small and uncomfortable for me. So rather than change the grips, I added a T-Grip and it immediately fixed the problem. It looks great too.
My other Model 16-4, a gorgeous 6" CHP Commemorative, has larger smooth coke bottle grips - like the ones in post #22 - that fit my hand perfectly. It has the smoothest trigger of any revolver I own, including a perfect Python.

Ivory for BBQs and weddings ... only if the wedding is formal and has a real preacher .

The Jordan Trooper stocks, based on Bill's design, wrap around the grip frame, making the circumference of the stocks quite large. The reason for this is that Bill had HUGE hands. I had a pair of these stocks, and they were way too large for me to get a proper grip. They're probably too large for most of the population.
