Funny how your tastes change with age.
Back in my 30s and 40s I was really into having S&Ws in the presentation cases. (Is that the correct term or just wooden box?) Anyway, I amassed a pretty good stash of them. Then I sort of broke up with them. The boxes were bulky to store and the interiors started rotting due to age so I sold them off. Think I kept one pristine 4" box and another 6.5 version that came with my 29-2. All the rest of the boxes with revolvers were sent to new owners.
Now if I could just grow out of my disdain for stainless...

I turned my cases into cigar boxes years ago. Then replaced them with very nice quality presentation cases for the guns.I know that they are sought after these days, but on the merits of quality alone there are much better choices to display your guns in.

I have a small stack, not to fit any guns I have and no liners. Just space takers. One had been started to be refinished, but never completed. I don't have the talent or desire to do it. All are a little "used". I had a weak moment at an auction a couple years ago. How much might these be worth?

Correct. You can't shoot the boxes(well I guess you could use them for targets). So they are "purt" much useless after you remove the gun.

I agree. I sold off about eight of those finish eaters a couple years ago myself.

I have 6 or 7 of them floating around here someplace. They have a bad liner or no liner. They still bring good money on eBay. The early ones with the Velvet lining are different story. I have a first year 41 Magnum in one of those with the original bill of sale from 1964. That was before they changed to the blue coated plastic.

Boxes are neat but I don't go out of my way to get them. As mentioned above, they don't make shooting any better, and if they're not matched to the gun it's just vanity IMO.
The one older (not plastic) S&W box I have...I put aftermarket grips on the gun and it no longer fits inside. So...guess what I store in it? Two Colt .38s! The sacrilege!

In my 20s I thought the three T's, a long barrel, and a wood box were musts.
Now, some 40-some years later I don't have one of those.
My Chiefs Specials are akin to the antithesis of three T's, long barrels, and wood boxes.
I'm mighty content.

Mine are stacked on a shelf in the garage.
Just another Enigma for my kids to resolve after I PCS!

I have a box- of boxes. Some of them, I'm told, are valuable like the original box to one of my .22 Ladysmiths, and the original case to my Pre 29. But they do take up space as I don't keep anything in them.
Can't get rid of them because they go with the guns, so they get wrapped in plastic and put in the box of boxes never to be seen again.
