Model 66 No Dash
Just picked up a Model 66 made in 1976 according to S&W customer service. I believe the grips are not correct. Comments?

Model 66 No Dash
I believe these “football cutouts” would be correct for your M66 (my 66 ND pictured with my 2.5”).

Keep an eye on the classifieds here or the auction site. They're out there. Condition will help dictate price - maybe $75 to $125.

That is very nice. I recently picked up a no dash 66 in 2.5" and a 6-1 in 2.5" Both were wearing magnas and are round butts.
I looked in SCSW 4th ed and it does not say either way whether the target stocks are relieved or non-relieved. Just that they are GA Target stocks.
Even the pictures on the SCSW 4th ed supica and Nahaus only show the right side of the revolver. I believe they would have been relieved Target stocks but I can't verify that presently. Looking at images on Google there are both relieved and non relieved found in various pictures.

The Model 66 is a K frame revolver. The full speedloader cutout on the K frame targets showed up in the late 1970s, I believe 1979, but no earlier than 1978. So, a 1975 example would have shipped with the extractor relief only (the so-called "football" cut).
And yes, GA would have been standard.

So far as I know all the 2.5" Combat Magnum revolvers, whether Model 19 or Model 66, shipped with round butt Magna style stocks. The longer barrel Combat Magnum revolvers came standard with Target stocks. This was the case from the beginning of the Model 19 and continued in the '60s when the stainless version was introduced.

Here's a Model 19 RB with factory Magna stocks.
Here is one with "enhanced" stocks - Ivory looks so good on a blued snub!

Can’t believe how lucky I am. I also have a 1981 Model 19-4 with incorrect football target grips. I will just swap the for those on the 66. I’ll post pics tomorrow.

Grips have been swapped, football on the 66 and speed cut on the 19-4. The 19-4 is factory nickel.

No, it was a private transaction near Austin.
