I have a 19-3 with rust damage which I cleaned. Now with area's of minor pitting and I'm wondering if I replate it will I keep the value like close to excellent condition? Serial # begin's with 1K##### were made in what year?

The short answer is "no." A refinished revolver will be priced as a refinished revolver. It will never compete in price with an original finish gun in "excellent" condition.
1K serial numbers were used in 1970 and 1971, with the breakover coming at about 1K39500.

You'd be lucky to increase the value by the cost of the refinish. For example a $200 refinish might raise the value of the gun $200. However it all depends on the condition it is in right now and how much you have to pay for the refinish. Any gun with pitting will still have the pitting once refinished.

Depending upon the extent and depth of the pitting, if contemplating a refinish, you might be best served with a bead blasted blued finish. Plating with hard chrome or nickel would also be options, but will cost more than a satin/matte blue. As for value, the revolver has already been de-valued by corrosion. Refinishing may restore a portion of the lost value, but it will never be worth as much as a Model 19-3 with an excellent condition original finish.

I would sell it as is. Don't spend the money to refinish. You probably, won't get your money out of it. It is just a shooter, anyway.

No a refinish will not increase the value, I'm not sure what you have invested in the 19-3 but here are two I've purchased in the last year that are all original for about 750 each.
The 1k with no following numbers wouldn't be possible to get a year on because it would cover almost the whole run of 19-3s.

It sounds like a great shooter. Refinish however you like or don't. A quality chrome or nickel would be nice but do it for you if you like it. Shoot the heck out of it. If it was in perfect condition you wouldn't want to risk wear. Now you get to enjoy using it.
