8 & 3/8" 629 no dash
Howdy y'all,
So I sold a rifle a few days ago and had some mad money when I checked the local classifieds today and saw this gorgeous hog leg 629 no dash complete with box, docs, and tools being sold by the original owner. My wife didn't try hard enough to stop me so it was in my possession within an hour of seeing the ad. Since it was an impulse buy when I was looking for a PC gun or new hunting rifle, I'll probably sell it or use it as trade bait sooner before later, but I had to share with the fellas before any of that nonsense. Enjoy.

Man, that is cool, and I assume it's a rare bird?
I don't run across 8 3/8" stainless N frames very often.
Or maybe I'm not looking in the right place!

Maybe one of the affocianados can help with this, but to the best of my knowledge, 6" P&R 629's were only made for 3 years before the -1 engineering change, while the 4" and 8.375" barrels were only offered for one year before the -1. I'm unsure if anyone knows how many are floating around, but I don't see them often either, and that's why I jumped on this one. If anyone knows different please don't allow me to spit lies.

In my neck of the woods, these are rare as hen's teeth. I saw this one and snagged it right after it was put out for sale (it was a consignment gun). The gun is excellent, but the presentation case is a bit whooped.

"89" I had 2, & when I saw the leftside s&w stamp, I knew it would make a cool 5" & sent it away. Favorite gun, 1 fewer 8 3/8" nd's. No regrets. Don't hate. Notime2

you will never be able to get rid of it. Lighten up spings a bit and start shooting. It's pure magic, you'll see. So smooth and a nice feel to it.

There are a few of us (myself included) that have these. They are supposedly scarce but many don’t care for the long tube. It doesn’t bother me because I use it as a range gun and don’t carry it.
There’s a thread on these if you want to search it.
Here’s mine. I’ve had I for probably 30+ years.
IIRC the Blue Book says about 200 were made but you can take that with a grain of salt.
I have my doubts on that figure.

I was fortunate enough to find one a few years ago. They're very well made six shooters. Very nice catch! BTW, I've never seen a pipe used for a prop rod.  Great idea!

I had just had a smoke while I was wiping down the ol' hog leg and it was just sitting there, I figured using it as a prop rod was just as good as its intended use. Thanks.

I love the N-frame smiths, I have a 4" no dash 629, a no dash 8 3/8"s 629, a 29-2 6 1/2", and a 625-8 45 acp, and I also have 4 k frames and 1 L frame
