A Model19 once again
When I joined a police force in 1963 the city was gracious enough to have me buy all of my uniforms and equipment. The pistol that was recommended was a Model 19 which I purchased at George Cake Co in Berkley Ca for the princely amount of $82.57. That pistol served me on the street and police competition for many years finally letting it go somewhere along the way as I graduated to a Model 66 and beyond. I always thought about another 19 but by the time I became serious prices hit the roof, then last Saturday on my birthday my best friend came up with a like new 19 with target everything and presented it to me. A 1978 issue ( pinned and recessed) but unfortunately without a box and papers but still one of the nicest 19’s I have seen lately. Thanks buddy.

Well done. The 4" Model 19 is on the short list of best looking, perfectly-balanced, do-everything revolvers S&W has ever produced.
You earned it. Enjoy.

Very nice! Now that is a great friend. Congrats!
Looks like it has Target Hammer & Trigger too. 3 T's are my favorite combo.
Enjoy...

You have a fine friend there! That is one nice gift, but my guess is you earned it many times over. Shoot and Enjoy!
That’s a sweet 19, my favorite Smith is my 6” 19-3 with 3T’s. Wrong grips for the time but that will be fixed soon, these beauties are on the way.

Like you, I started my LE career with a Model 19 4" revolver. I virtually wore it out on the range and on the PD's pistol team. It moved on when I bought a Model 65 and later a Model 58. The deputy (now retired) that bought my first 19, still has it some 45 years after he bought it from me by the way.
Having regretted selling that first Model 19, I bought both a 4" and a 6" after I retired and I now enjoy shooting both of them from time to time.
Like Bill Jordan said: It was a police officer's dream.

Thanks for the kind responses, yes I am blessed many times over particularly with my friend. Every spring my friend will fly to my home in Washington State where we pack my pickup to the gills with Guns, ammo and my Westie dog....drive to his home in Texas and hunt feral hogs for several months. He then will drive To my home home with me and fly back to Texas. I average 45-50 hogs each year.

So will that sweet 19 be at your side for this year’s hunt? Seems like a little “Pistol-iced Pork” would be in order.

Green Frog, I am making a travel list now which includes the 19 at the top, I usually take six or eight rifles, a dozen or more pistols and many cans of ammo. We made a range (7 yards to 100 yards) and do a heck of a lot of shooting while spending two months in Texas. This is a time to sight in the night vision for nighttime hog hunts and check other scopes and sights As well as just fun shooting.

What part of Texas? I spent a few years in the Austin area back in the '70s. We did a lot of shooting on a 3000 acre spot.
