LGS has a 48-4, 4 inch barrel, magna stocks, with the box. Unknown if the tools are present, box was stored. The gun is in very nice condition, with just a 1/32 inch light spot on the barrel, not rust, some kind of light colored spot. It was priced at $749, firm. Is this too high? Thanks.

I would check on Gun broker,and see what they are going for. Not what they are asking. Then decide,how bad do you want it.

$750 is a fair price IMO. I traded for mine. Gave up my LNIB 296 Ti for it. No regrets whatsoever.

Love my 48-4 4". It's like new in the box. Was UNFIRED when I got It. Shooting it for the first time was incredibly satisfying. It might even be my favorite revolver.

I've seen really strong prices on rimfire pinned-barrel S&Ws (they're all recessed of course unless you want to go waaaay back). The 17-2s and newer with standard 6" barrels are probably the most sane. I think that's a good price for the 48-4 as described. Yes I know there are pinned and non-pinned -4s.

I think that is a very reasonable price for a 4 inch 48-4 in very good condition. Just happens that I was at the Fort Worth Cabelas today and they had four 4 inch 48s all in nice condition and all priced at $999. One was a -4, one was a -3, and another was a -7 (I think; much newer anyway but may have had the box), and a no dash four screw from 1960 with the wrong stocks. However, the wrong stocks were very nice fairly heavily barked stag and the price ended up being $900 plus tax after a little discussion. May have been a little too much but I've been looking for an early one for a long time. Any of them except the -7 would have been of interest at $750. Good luck.

That 48 of yours is one fine looking gun. Wasn't that red ramp an option and not standard? I think you did very well on that one. Congrats.

Don't want to derail the original post but I'll add a little more info and ask a question as well. The finish looked almost too good for a 60 year old gun but good enough that I figured if it was a re-blue it had to have been done by the factory. Turns out it has a 1969 date stamp on the butt with an R-S so it is a factory refinish.

I'm ok with that as I'm one of the folks that thinks that since the same people using the same tools and the same focus on quality, did the refinish as well as the original finish, that a factory refinish from that period has little impact on value.

I've seen some other 48s with the red insert on the front sight so I think it could have been an original option or may have been added when the refinish was done. It also has a white outline rear sight which I wonder if is original as well. Either way the sights are great and I'm eager to get it to the range.

I may letter it, had an interesting letter on another factory re-finish that made the letter cost worth every cent, maybe this one had an interesting life too. Doesn't appear to have seen much use since that re-finish back in 1969.
