629 no dash value

Hi all. New member here wondering about a value for a gun I have the opportunity to buy.

There is a 8.375” 629 no dash, pinned and recessed available for sale in my area here in California and I was wondering what a value on something like this would be.

From my understanding these P&R guns were only produced in this barrel length for one year so it might have some rarity to it. Not sure if that translates to value.

The gun seems to be in good shape from the photos and it comes with the presentation case that is not in the best shape. And I put into what an average going rate for something like this would be appreciated.

There are a number of previous threads about P&R 629s which you can find using the Search button at the top of the page which might be of help. You might also want to check completed recent sales on the auction sites. We can't help much as to value without pictures; condition, original stocks, box/papers? I'd guess somewhere around $1000 for a nice one; maybe more in California. Maybe comparing condition with this 4 inch P&R I bought late last year for $730 will help; I thought it something of a bargain. Good luck and welcome to the Forum.

It just so happens that I just a 8.375" 629 no dash on this very forum within the last two weeks. I got $1050 for it. It was far from a perfect example, but had original box, documents, tools, and grips. You won't have to scroll very far down the for sale section to see my ad and pictures of the firearm.

I love talking firearms gratis. However, the older I get the more I wonder how much I should charge for my investment advice.

Of course P&R is the most desirable, but then again 8 3/8" is the least desirable. I might guess somewhere 900 to 1000, depending on condition and use, and no pics. maybe a little less. Wood targets would have come on it. Box and documents?

I have a transitional 6" New in box( factory fired only ). Transitional meaning no pin, but recessed cylinder. I might look for 1100.00 for it with wood orig. targets. A bit more with the Culina exhibitions on it not

I am the new owner of the one THEmodelof1989 sold for $1050! It is a good shooter grade gun and excellent condition. It did not come with the wood presentation box, just the two piece cardboard box with label. I shot it today. It's 40 years old!! or there abouts. So, I would not expect it to be like new. It has been shot some, but very little. Now it will be shot some more.

There are a lot of factors that come into play when pricing a firearm. First, what part of CA are you in? Who is the dealer? Some dealers are known for pricing things higher than others. Of course condition is a prime factor. Does it have a square or round butt and is it listed as a Classic? The latest S&W collectors catalog list the 629 value (which is subject to change): As New In The Box - $1000, Excellent - $750, and Very Good - $650. Also there are other model 629s that have higher values. Not really knowing what the one you're inquiring about is, makes it more difficult to come up with a real value. Of course not seeing the actual revolver makes it harder too. My wild guess would probably be $100 under or over $1000.
