Default model 19 357 combat

I have a model 19 357 combat with class a factory engraving and I do have the S&W letter on the gun. The gun is a 1979. I know little to nothing about hand guns but would like to have a idea at todays cost , what the engraving would cost if purchased from S&W. I would guess S&W still has factory engraving. I can not figure out how to post a picture but according to my gun smith he does not think the gun has been fired other than at the factory. It is in a presentation box with a brush and mop. If anybody would like to have a picture I can e mail it to you.

I'd suggest contacting S&W factory, and then be ready to send them some pics. Engraving costs depend on the style of engraving and other options that the original buyer might have requested.

Photos of the engraved Model 19-3 or -4 are important as in the mid to late 70s S&W contracted some of their engraving work to a firm in Italy to relieve the workload on engravers working at the factory. Guns engraved in Italy are well done, but are all very similar and would be worth less to a collector than a gun engraved by an engraver employed by S&W and working at the factory in Springfield.

The case would be of interest to me, as I only know of one Model 19-3 that letters as being shipped with a mahogany presentation case.

You can send photos to: doc1970@windstream.net I will help as much as I can. Be sure to include a photo of the gun in the case.

Bill

That would be one of the Italian contracted factory engraved guns that Bill (Doc44) referred to above. The style of engraving is very consistent with all of the guns that were engraved under that agreement with the Factory. As I have followed several of these sell recently on auction sites and I would expect that with good photos and a reputable seller yours would sell in the range of $1,500 to $2,300 (the N-Frame guns seem to go for more). It could always bring more if you get a couple of bidders who really want it.

Very fun gun. Thanks for sharing,

Here again I really can not tell you about the case. I sent it to one of your guys fir a repair and the case came with the gun when I purchased it from a estate in Texas. The estate, as I was told, purchased the gun in 2006 from Rock Island for $ 2,600.
