Default 586 Round Butt Question

Having spent some time searching the S&W User’s Group and not finding much information, I was hoping someone could answer my question. I have a 4 inch 586 round butt, 586-3, S/N BD N8202, that has a mat blue finish that I would like to know the year of manufacture? I purchased it with what I believe is an Ahrend’s RB grip. Can anyone please provide additional information on this S&W revolver? Thank you so much.

The BDN prefix revolvers were manufactured in 1989 if I am reading the SCSW book right.

As noted by Bob L...it looks as if you have a 586-3 from 1989. I'm attaching copy of a portion of Mr. Jinks letter about Glass Bead (Matte) Finished 586's from 1989 run. Also, you may find the following link from S&W Forum useful.

Hope this info is helpful.

Default 586-3 4”

Page 298, Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 4th Edition, 103591 4” SG Glass Bead, 2500 manufactured., Special Production 1989

This was the third revolver that I had bought early. I would say it catapulted, not only my Smith & Wesson revolver collecting but a another collection, grips. It came in 6” also.

Default Thanks for the Info

Thanks to all of you for the information. I wasn't aware of the history of this flavor of 586. It's my favorite S&W revolver in my safe and I will probably be buried with it.
