Default Which model 19 should I buy

I am looking to buy a model 19 4" barrel and I was wonder which model would be best to buy the model 19 - 19-4 I will be shooting the gun but am going to pass to my son in a few years. Also, I am looking for a model 27 as same as the model 19. Any suggestions would be appreciated .

Assuming you don’t want to pour money into collector-quality guns, I’d buy a 19-4 and a 27-2. You can shoot both of these guns and not fret over wearing out earlier, less readily available models.

To my mind the 19-4 is the king of hill of the 19s. It’s P&R and has the gas ring on the cylinder. Any iteration of the 27 family is cool, but the -2 is the most plentiful, reasonably priced and last 27 being P&R.

I'd stay with the 19-4 or earlier. I just like the quality of the P&R guns.

I wouldn't dismiss a model 27 out to the -3, which did not have the pinned barrel or recessed cylinder but was still made in the era of hand fitting and solid wood stocks.

With both these and (especially) the model 19 you will want to examine used guns carefully for signs of heavy use, as the factory no longer makes parts like barrels and cylinders for P & R guns. Happy hunting!

Totally agree with M29since14. However, if the price is right, I’d go for any of them.
