Two fixed sight N frames, both keepers.
1980 Model 520 and my 1976 Model 58. They're almost twins.
I've never shot the M520 but love shooting the M58.

I just fell in love with fixed sight N frames ! This recently acquired 1954 mfg. 38/44 HD caused it. Your M 520 and M58 are on my wish/want list now. The simplicity and "heft" of these types just says "I mean business" .

I've posted this picture before.
These are the first 6 rounds I ever shot with my M58. I have no idea where the first one went. 
This was at 100 ft with full .41 mag loads.
I think the M58 would be an excellent gun to shoot a bad guy with.

A small clarification to my original post. It is the POST WAR N frames I really have a "crush" on. I have had several pre-war fixed sight N frames --- a 1935 HD, several 1917s and 1937 Brazilians. I liked them very much. But doggone, those post war fixed sight N frames are just a different animal. I'm going to a gun show this week-end. If I see one, it's owner will be in for some serious negotiating, or a quick "I'll take it" depending on the asking price.

I've met some bad guys who would disagree with you about that including one that was hit by a 125 HP 357 from a model 66 at over 75 yards while fleeing along a RR right of way after he shot a clerk in an armed robbery. No, I wasn't the LEO who took the shot. He was a better shot than me !!

That officer is a better shot than me. I would call that a very precise shot. I would need a rifle with a scope to hit a running bad guy at 75 yards. That would include a measure of luck on my part. And a significant supply of ammo. One shot-one hit? Not by me.

Driving home this evening, I was thinking about fixed sighted N frames with shrouded ejectors. I am aware of ones in 38 Special (38 HD), 357 (Model 520), and 45 ACP (Model 22-4). Any other chamberings?

The Model 1950 .44 Special which became the Model 21 would probably interest you the most. In more recent times there were small production runs of fixed sight Model 29s and 629s. There was also the weird Performance Center Models 625-10 and -11 .45 ACPs. They had super short cylinders that made their 2.1" barrels barely stick out of their frames. While they only have over size fixed sights installed in frames machined for adjustable sights there was the Night Guard series. They included the Model 327 .357 Mag., Model 310 10 mm, Model 357(?) .41 Mag., Model 329 .44 Mag. and Model 325 .45 ACP. The Model 21 is the only one I thought of that is the correct vintage for this sub-forum.
I like the way the lack of an extractor rod shroud makes the Model 58 look like a more serious Model 10.

LPD256, I reread my post trying to figure out where I gave you the idea he only fired one shot. If memory serves, he fired three times with one hit.
The secret was he was also a handgun hunter using the same 357 for both hunting and on-duty. Still, one helluva shot.

One shot or five, still a great shot. Today, we can’t shoot a fleeing felon if not an imminent threat. I chased a guy down a set of tracks and another across a pasture on a Police Harley. Can’t say I ever took a shot at a runner.

My favorite is the .44 special with fixed sights. No proof of this, but, I think the fixed sights are a fraction faster out of the holster and no sharp
edges to catch on anything. My EDC is a 44 fixed sight S&W. I have
thought about a cheaper .44 special to carry but so far haven't found
one I like.
I really like the op's pair of N frames.

What is a resonable price range for a Model 58?
Yesterday I came upon an opportunity to purchase a S&W 58 (no-dash). The owner says it has never been fired and I don't doubt it, extremely faint drag line on the cylinder indicating the cylinder has been rotated a little. Includes box with matching serial number, cleaning rod, wax paper and all the original paperwork, including the sales receipt from 1976. I realize it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it and it seems like a lot of guns today sell for more than you would think based on a current Blue Book or S&W Standard Catalog listing might indicate but what would be reasonable price range for a Model 58 in basically new-in-box condition?

My EDC is a model 21-4. Incredibly accurate. It is also great for point shooting. I have three of them

Equal time for the 'elder crowd! Truly senior "underlug Smiths" need equal-time too! Ref the below model! From about 1914 or so, 44 Spl! She may be old, but like me, yet "lethal".
Also just to inquire about shooting bad guys with fixed sight barrel... Is this part of Miranda rights in Kansas. Or just a matter of "sporting chance" ediquitte, lest "Officer Involved Shooting Review to conclude "Bad Show!"
Also with the guy I note a mutual sweet spot... Mine also post WWII Smiths mostly to early eighties. Most in S frames, centered on the "3rd Model from '46 to '50.
And now back to 'the' Smith...
