Default Dragnet Special at a LGS.

Saw a k frame snub for sale at a LGS this morning.

An M10-5 square butt. Nice condition.

On consignment for $450 asking price.

Really tempted.

Seem like a good price for here in CA.

I have several j frame snubs, but no k's.

Procrastinating can pay off.

I looked at the same gun a month ago just before a 30 day trip.

Then the price was $100 more.

But I think it will go soon so point taken.

If I recall first year Joe Friday carried a Colt DS and then switched to a Chief Special. Unless the thing is trashed that is a decent price if you are in the market.

I believe that Jack Webb had a M-12 Airweight with squiggle (Speed) hammer some of the time, and Ben Alexander had a pre-M-15 Combat Masterpiece. Friday(Webb) did have a Colt early on.

Going from memory, but I don't recall a Chief Special. However, a number of cop and PI shows of the 1960's featured those.

"Bourbon Street Beat" also had the PI's keeping a 3.5 inch M-27 in an office safe, for their riskier cases.

Most watching TV can't tell a M-36 from a snub M-10.

Forget the TV Shows and buy that Snub. That’s a good price if it’s in nice shape.

That would be a good price even if it was just like Barney Fife's.

While I've always been a fan of the Model 15,
I suppose how it looks and just feels right.

But I really enjoy the Model 14 and shooting
it; I guess the 6-inch barrel just does it so
much better than the 4-inch.

By the way, in later episodes the Model 15 takes
over, reflecting the switch the LAPD made. But
some of the department's 4-inchers were really
the Model 14 cut down....ouch!

The actual owned by Martin Milner Model 15 with the 4" barrel and Fuzzy Farrant grips was auctioned off on Gunbroker in September of 2014.Before he passed he and his wife auctioned off many Adam 12 mementos on Ebay. Here's a pic.

In the immortal words of Foster Goldstrom, "If you like it, jump on it!"

Just pay the price for the thing. Otherwise you'll be jabbering about it for the rest of your life.

Try Triple A's in Vallejo. Big selection of vintage Smith's, many in original boxes.

Friday did carry the M&P (now model 10) in some later episodes, but it
really doesn't matter what TV characters carried them. Real cops carried
them.

In the 1970s Boise PD uniform officers carried 10-6 with 4" barrel.
Plain cloths cops carried 10-5 snubs.

Sgt. Friday also carried a Colt Detective Special. They showed a close up, he needed to get to the range to re-qualify, but was too busy busting criminals.

One of the Dragnet episodes showed Joe receiving his new revolver, probably by mail. He was sitting at his desk, opening the box and talking about it with his partner (don't remember which one) and described it. I think it was either a Model 10 or a Model 12. But it has been a long time since I saw it. Perhaps there is a clip showing that sequence on YouTube, but I haven't looked for it.
