Just picked up a nice model 36 and wondering if anyone could tell me about when it was made. Hate to send S&W money that could go towards buying another one of their guns. It's serial is 571,XXX.

I'd guess the factory shipped your Chiefs Special in the last quarter of 1967.
S&W didn't track manufacturing dates, only shipping dates. We never know how long one might have sat on the shelves before it shipped. A letter will only tell you the exact day it shipped, and to where.
You might try shooting photos outdoors on an overcast day so there's no glare.
