Default Finally completed my Smith and Wesson 357 collection: with pictures

After about six years, I *think* that my collection is finally complete. It started with a 686, and on a whim I decided to start collection 357 magnum revolvers. My criteria was that it each example habe a unique model number, they must be pre-lock, and they must be 357 magnum. P&R and the box were a bonus, but not a requirement, although for the models that were P&R'ed I did obtain that variant. The models I have are as follows:
686
586
27
28
66
681
581
19
65
627
340
640
649
60
13
520
10-6 (pre-13)
64-1 (pre-65)

My phone doesn't take the best pictures, but here is a link to the album:

Where is the Registered Magnum and the pre-models? Just kidding. Nice collection.

Well I did consider the pre models, but I discarded that because they do not have unique model numbers, i.e. a pre-27 is the essentially the same as a 27 just without a number, and if it did have a number it would be 27. So logically (in my mind) they didn't fit. I have considered a registered magnum as the centerpiece of my collection, but for now thats out of the question (and it's in the model 27 family, so the above logic applies).

Don't tempt me lol. I'm already out of space in my gun safe, and that would only aggravate the problem.

That's a serious collection. You ought to get the whole family together for a group shot. I got the 29/629 itch and ended up with every barrel length of each plus some. I had to get off the 'gun of the month club' when I retired but still have hopes of completing all barrel lengths of different dash # variants.
Thanks for showing off for us!

That's an awesome collection. I love .357 Magnums.

Not too long ago I had 20 .357 Magnums. Today I'm down to nine.

Great concept for a collection. I admire people that have an idea like that and follow through. Me, I just want one of everything, or lacking that, one of everything I like. Lacking that, one of everything I like that I can afford. Since I'm now on a fixed income, I have already achieved my goal. Congratulations on achieving your goal! Which begs the question - what's next?

Good question lol. I was thinking about something with the 38's, but haven't made up my mind yet. I was also thinking about police dept marked revolvers as well.

You can't quite group a RM with a M27

They don't even have the same action.

Treat yourself, You only live once..

Looking for the right one myself.

OK - and I'm spending somebody else's money - how about post-war non-model marked .38's? That should keep you busy!

Peak, I'm a lot like you in my collection strategy. I like a little of everything and mine spans pretty wide at this point with a little of this and a little of that with this, that and the other thrown in. lol

I like a little of everything too except no J frames, nothing after 1980, no scandium, no hand cannons, nothing that says PC, and no stainless

Next is the -1, -2, -3, -4 etc, and you need a blue and nickel of each.

Ha! I debated about making the finish a criteria or not. Part of me wanted a blue and nickle version of each, but I had to reign in my ambitions in the interest of funds. Maybe now that I have achieved my first goal, the different finishes will be back on the table. Or just save up for the RM as someone else suggested

My 520 has only been fired 102 times since leaving the factory.
I've never fired it. Maybe one day I will.

I like the idea, I prefer the models with adjustable sights. I have a 66 (4"), 686 (4"), and 2-19's (4" and a 6"). Hope to find a 586, 27 (5" preferred) and a 28 in the future. Once I get those, I will look for different barrel lengths in each model. Am I missing anything?

Was able to trade my nephew out of his very nice 586 no dash, no M, 4" and My father in law gave me his Model 28. It was his first duty gun, he bought it used and sometime prior to him owning the gun someone nickel plated the frame, cylinder, sights and barrel and gold plated the hammer, trigger, cylinder release and ejector rod. Not exactly parallel with my taste but a nice gun and it has significant sentimental value. Thought about restoring it to its original matte blue configuration but I will probably keep it as is and pass it down to one of my son's when appropriate

turp_dog,
Great concept

You have gotten most of the pre-lock 357 Magnum revolver model represented

As far as I can see, the only ones still missing are the Models 360 and 386

If you added the post-lock 357 Magnum revolvers that would add the models 327, 520, 619 and 620.

The introduction of the Scandium N-frame is a milestone in the story of the 357 Magnum revolver

While it came at a too late in history, the 7 shot 357 Magnum duty revolver is a notable event in the 357 Magnum story
